so alot of my friends have been to Europe for study abroad-mainly france and london-and some are looking @ dublin ireland? im considering it cos I've got a good friend living over there BUT..
*is it tru you people think all americans are sluts? and y? is it cos of britney spears and sh*t?[ thats a bad reason! ]
*will people there b nice to us now that we finally dont have Bush as president to represent our nation?? lolz
*in general, is it easy to get along w/ people there. i hear they're extremly friendly. it makes me uneasy to thnk you guys see us as sluts! or rich dumb blondes!

i guess america has stereotypes of other countries too but not really since most people who live here.. are not from here..

Not true that we think that all Americans are sluts. I don't think that Britney Spears is a slut. I think she just made some bad choices.

People have always been nice to Americans regardless of their presidents. However, there are been enough rude Americans to make people be rude back. Sorry, but that's a fact. Too many of you have assumed that everyone in Europe speaks English, when they don't, and then you don't have patience with non-English speakers. But I for one am pleased to see a change in the White House .... and congratulations, by the way.

You should be fine, honestly. If you are friendly, and don't make such statements that include sweeping misconceptions of the the political situation of the country you are in, you will be made welcome. (An example of such a sweeping misconception is 'So you're from Ireland, right? So you hate all the English?' Seriously, I got this from an American. Couldn't believe what I was hearing! Talk about misinformed!)

Tips: 1) Don't go on and on about how expensive everything is in Europe. We live here. We KNOW. 2) Try not to talk too loud. In other words, try not to talk at your normal volume. I'm afraid you people are just plain loud. 3) Don't assume that everyone you know speaks English. Ask them first. 4) If your family is, say, Italian, or Irish, don't call yourself Italian or Irish - because to us, this is a nationality, while to you it's an ethnic background. Say instead that your grandmother, grandfather, whoever, came from Italy or Ireland (or wherever). To us you are American, not Italian, not Irish, not European. It's important that you understand this distinction, I myself was only made aware of it recently, here on Yahoo Answers. Before then I used to get very huffy towards Americans who declared themselves to be 'Irish'. 5) And if you do have Irish ancestors, don't assume that those of us who are not related to you will care. Naturally your Irish cousins will care, but nobody else will, really.

You'll have a great time, and you'll be very welcome to our country.

1) do we think your sluts...NO. Loads of countries produce rubbish singers with issues, the US is not alone there, so don't take it personally
2) Yes, more than likely
3) People will take you as you are, if you go around acting like a dumb blond than that's what people will see. Be yourself, relax, the humour is meant to be irreverent, so laugh along, and enjoy your time here.

1. I have never heard of the stereo type that American girls are sluts. So I really don't think that one is true. People here tend to take a person as they find them, if you act like a slut, you'll be treated as a slut, if you don't you won't. I imagine it's the same everywhere else!

2. I really don't think that anyone treat you any differently because of your President. People here just don't think like that.

3. People here tend to be pretty friendly. Like anywhere you'll find the occasional unfriendly character.

As some of your other answers have suggested the main stereo type for Americans we have here is that they're loud and sometimes don't understand our sense of humour. So sometimes if you feel that you're being laughed at, you're not, they intend for you to laugh with them and them turn it back around on the person winding you up. If you can do that, you'll fit right in here!

1. Generally people do not consider americans sluts because of Britney, you'll be considered one if you behave like one.
2. People will be nice to you if you are nice to them (usually), not because of your president.
3. Most people are friendly here but like any other country there are decent people and their are some very nasty characters. I would advise that if you are travelling to any big city, not just Dublin that you take precautions anyway.

It annoys me when people slag off America. I think the country is fantastic and i found the people to be incredibly friendly. People who slag off America and it's people are just jealous

Misty Blue
People are the same the world over.Be nice to them, they'll be nice to you.The main stereotype is that Americans are loud so just turn the volume down a bit.I would've thought that most people would think of American girl's as more moral rather than less.George's departure has helped immensely it reassured the rest of the world that you do still see things the same way as us at last.No one gives Britney a blind bit of notice here.

xxEllexx
lol! Don't worry, theres so many rich dumb blondes in Dublin, we're well used to it!
We dont think you're sluts...I was actually under the impression that youre less liberal than us in that regard. The American attitude towards sex can be really conservative...remember that we are a modern country and no crazy catholic priest is gonna hunt you down for fornication lol

Some Americans tend to brag about how much bigger and better it is 'back home'..."OH MY GOD, how can you guys NOT have skyscrapers? OMG that's so ice age." - (this is an actual quote from an American girl I met in college ha ha)..
Im not saying youd have this attitude, but keep in mind that its really annoying!

Also, it tends to get on peoples nerves when Americans claim to be 'Irish" when in fact it was their distant relative who emigrated during the famine or something.
Not saying that you have no right to be proud of your heritage, but please don't get peoples blood boiling by asking "Do you know my Grandfather? His name is Thomas O'Connor" or (god forbid) start asking questions about your "family castle" lol

*I dont think any Irish people care for your presidents that much. We all know Bush wasnt the nicest guy ever (lol) but I dont think anyone would be odd enough to judge a person based on the president/politics of their country.

Of course we are all aware of stereotypes but we're also aware of the fact that theyre not accurate.
For example, everyone knows theres a lot of fat americans...but we're not stupid enough to think you're all that way.

Some Irish people will roll their eyes about Americans but theyre really only referring to the obnoxious, loud, rude, ignorant 'American Tourist' types
Just be yourself and you'll fit right in - we are friendly believe it or not!
I dont think people will judge you as much as you expect

Jo D
Actually I'd never have thought of you guys as sluts! I'd have assumed you were all raised with great morals!!
There are certain countries I'd have expected those girls from but not America.
I do think people will constantly ask you about Obama..esp taxi drivers!
We are a nice friendly bunch..of course there are grumpy and unwelcoming types that you'd find in any country but they're at a minimum and you'll spot them a mile off!
The only American tourist to Ireland stereotype I know (and have constant come across) is they think every Irish person can River dance!! and the older couples always always wear matching emerald green sweatsuits!!
Come over and have fun..who cares what people think anyway!!
