We would like to make friends with Irish people?

My wife and I are going to Cork and Dublin, Ireland in September 2006. We will be busy from Monday to Friday while we are in Ireland. We are looking for Irish people during the weekend to share your culture with us, cause we are teachers in Taiwan and we would like to share our experience with our students when we return to Taiwan.
Also, can anyone tell us where can we find a cheap hotel near the campus of University College Cork?
Additional Details
This is our first time to Ireland, and we just know little about Irish culture. Therefore, we need someone to show us around us when we visit Cork and Dublin, such as give us some advise about the transportation, how to take a bus, how to get to the super-market, where can we find a rental car company, and answer our questions regarding Irish culture...... Thank you.

I've heard some very good reports about the Garnish Guest House on the Western Road in Cork. It's right beside the UCC front gates.

Feel free to send me an email through my 360 page - I'm not sure at the moment what I will be doing in September yet, but if I'm free I would be happy to meet you for an hour or so.

You are doing the right thing, by the way - it's a great way to learn about our country.

Cork and Dublin have their own unique and different cultures. It depends if you want city insights or a more thorough Irish country culture. In north west Ireland where I live we are rich in the most ancient of Irish history and today we are still rich in country traditions of 100s and even 1000s of years. Suggested counties are Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, Donegal and across the border into Fermanagh. Day tours, including ceilis where you can meet people, available. Some nice low cost accommodation too, including castles.

i would suggest that you dont go to a hotel but find a nice bed and breakfast, the home experience is great and you'll get a traditional irish fried breakfast. plus any bar will welcome you, find one with free entertainment i.e a band/singer. if you do want a hotel with weekend entertainment and good food and drink try the silversprings moran hotel, its not really close to UCC but its only a 5 minute bus ride.
