What's the best place to stay in Ireland (region Kerry)?

Ballybunion is a seaside town in north Kerry with a beautiful beach but I'm afraid that if you want to truely see the sights of this beautiful region you will need to rent a car for at least one day. Killarney is a nice, bustling town but there isn't a beach. Kenmare is a beautiful town but you will find it extremely difficult to get accommodation for the money you're willing to pay.

I would recommend the dingle peninsula, beautifull scenery and you can get everything you need there allthough you will have to get a bus to tralee to get to kerry airport which can take a couple of hours. I have stayed in two different guesthouses there but was more then 400 euro so cant help you there but no doubt you will find a place as it tend to be a bit of a tourist trap during summer.

I highly recommend the Dingle Penisula. It's one of my favorite places in Ireland. I've stayed at a lovely place called "The Captain's House". It is about 90 Euro per night for a couple, but the town is incredible. Everything is within walking distance of the B&B and they even have their own resident dolphin. I'm not sure about transportation to and from the Kerry airport, but I'm sure if you contacted the B&B they could give you some ideas. I'm not sure if they have tours or not, but the drive around the Dingle Penisula is breath taking.

Im afraid that i dont think you will get away with not renting a car, or at least using public transport to get around. I dont really like ballybunion, its a bit mad and not a true taste of ireland. killarney is a must, id recommend taking the boat trip throught the lakes of killarney its really beautiful, also there is muckross house, and turk waterfall (hightest waterfall in Ireland). Or go to glengarriff (Cork) , and visit garnish island, the trip to this place throught the killarney mountains it worth the trip in itself, it is breathtaking, only if your driving mind yourself its a narrow road and there is sheep grazing in the mountain and they do tend to wander onto the road. You will have a wonderful time in Ireland where ever it is you decide to go. Its the land of 'Cead mile failte'

Tuosist area is nice. Near kenmare on the beara peninsula. Sneem too, on the iveragh peninsula.

First of all you might want to get in the habit of calling it County Kerry as that is its official name. Secondly, you will definitely want to rent a car because you will probably want to drive the Ring of Kerry. Its really breathtaking. Given that you might look at renting a holiday cottage in Killarney. Its really a nice town, but in the past few years has become very very American with a Nike Factory outlet and other American stores. Google self-service holiday cottages in County Kerry and see what you come up with.

I can't help you with accomodations, as I stay with friends when I visit Ireland. But you most certainly WILL want to rent a car; think of all the fabulous sites you'll miss seeing if you don't! Trust me, it will be more than worth the mony you spend on a rental.
On both my visits I've stayed in Tralee which is about an hour-and-a-half's drive from Shannon Airport. It's a very nice town and should have everything you need there, but still think about renting a car; remember that Ireland is comprised of lots of different peninsulas which can require some travel.
