Why do people keep saying "Green Fields of France"?
This is a song about WW2 and was written by a scottish born Eric Bogle who moved to Australia in his 20's
There is no proof to even say Willie McBride was Irish altho it is persumed so and just cause the Furey's did a version doesn't make it an Irish song
But my fav songs are:
On Raglan Road
Spanish Lady
Sean South
O Gra mo Chroi
Four Green Fields |

I don't go for the 'We Hate The English' rebel songs anymore - those are best consigned to history.
I don't have any one favourite Irish song, there are many great ones I do like very much. I do like Buachaill On Eirne, I suppose that would be my favourite as Gaeilge - all about the lost love and that. In Irish - gosh, I don't know, Ride On as done by Christy Moore? |

Four Green Fields or Man Behind the Wire. Such passion in all of these true Irish folk songs. Too bad we can't feel the passion for our country and heritage. Guess that's why everyone wishes they were Irish......at least one day a year. |

I love Grace, but it's so melancholy. I also like A nation once again, for the sheer force of patriotism it invokes, even in me , a Jackeen. |
