I'm Irish, and I think the great attraction is the people too. And yes, richard has failed to take a lot into account, such as the famine, as mentioned by other users.
If you come to Ireland, Galway is a beautiful city to visit, and I'm quite fond of the Wicklow mountains. |

Actually whoever is above me more Irish people live outside of Ireland because of the famine in the 1840's and the fight for freedom in the early 1900's.
Yeah I would definitley recommend visiting us! Try and come for about a month rent a car and tour the country. Make sure and visit the burren, giants causeway and do the tour of Dublin by bus.

My boyfriend and I just got back from 6 months in Ireland, where I am from. We rented a car for the last 2 weeks and went camping all over. His couldn't believe how beautiful it was, and I had forgotten. Among our favourites were Connemara- with it's wild, desolate, haunting landscape. Kilarney and kinsale are lovely picturesque towns with all the pubs and business's painted different bright colours. I love Co. Claire, with the little town of Doolin, great Guinness in Listonvarna and maybe my favourite spot The Cliffs of Moher! breathtakingly beautiful, Galway is gorgeous too. The West of Ireland is a must see. Avoid The ring of Kerry, as the roads can be quite perilous and full of insane bus drivers who monopolize these roads. Try to see The gap of Donloe. Donegal is lovely too. There is so much to see, but since it's such a small country it is possible to see a great deal of it. Oh, and the people, well of course, they're wonderful... |

I think its our ability to laugh at ourselves an not take the world to seriously ..An yes Ireland is steeped in history.. An regardless of what richard c above me said about more people living outside of Ireland yes this is true we also have a long history of being travelling people an going to other countries but the thing about us is we go to other countries an respect there lifestyles an culture's we dont try to take over there country an force violence,rape,murder etc etc. upon its people. |

It's not Celtic music in Ireland, it's Irish music ....
Head for the west, it's more open and a bit wilder, and you're more likely to find trad music there. |

Why go to Ireland when you can go to Scotland or Wales. They are both much more scenic, friendlier and have more to do in. The weather is better too. You have to ask yourself why more Irish people live outside of Ireland than in it. |
