What age to you have to be in order to drink in a nightclub / pub in Ireland?

The legal drinking age is 18, but enforcement varies - in cities most pubs are fairly strict but some rural pubs or pubs in smaller towns tend to be a little more lenient - if you look 18 or thereabouts you are not always asked for ID. Most clubs have a higher age requirement - usually 21 - but many clubs in Ireland have a door policy that depends on whether or not the doormen like the look of you - if they don't you won't get in no matter what age you are.

bibi13
18 (you need a valid ID, driving licence won't be accepted as an ID)

bobdcow
18, bring ID some places are strict about it

18, some nightclubs only allow over 21's but geneerally 18, and they aren't hugely strict on ID and stuff

tellygonemad
its 18! but a lot of the clubs security only allow over 21 to keep a more mature crowd!! which is wrong!!! the law states 18

It's 18. Although they are not nearly as strick as the U.S., you will likely be carded at clubs if you look young, pubs not so much but does happen.

T.A.Y
i have no idea, let me know though

Andi
I think it is 18 there, as in England...

18 and you will probably need ID.

Misty Blue
Legally 18.Some pubs in Derry recently raised it to 21 to avoid serving under-agers.

18 definately,only 1 place in galway is 21

....
You have to be 18 and you have to have ID to prove your age.

I am from Ireland.

18 and yea some places are weird and wont let anyone under 21 in but there's not a lot of them about

As long as you have an ID and are over 18 you won't have a problem getting in to most places

18 although a lot of clubs won't let you in until you are 21 or even 25 in some cases.

suspendedagain300
I believe they only let you in bars in Ireland once you are old enough to say "Pint of Guinness".
