The physical beauty of Ireland is definitely at its best along the West Coast. The Iveragh Peninsula in Kerry is magnificent. Drive from Kenmare to Limerick, but take the scenic route. Drive along the Dingle Peninsula.
Overnight in Limerick. Drive through the Burren and visit the Cliffs of Moher. There are magnificent views of the Aran Islands. From there spend some time in Galway -- great cultural city. Drive through Connemara (desolate rugged beauty) to Clifden (along the route you will see a thatched roof cottage in which my grandmother was born!!!).
From Clifden, drive north to Westport (making sure you take the Sky Road). Along the way you will see Croagh Patrick. From there head north to Sligo (stopping at Rosses Point), head north to Donnegal, Bundoran, and Letterkenny.
Honestly, except from Dublin, there isn't much to do on the East coast. Stay along the west coast. |

Besides Galway, Cliffs of Moer, which someone already mentioned, Doolin, Newgrange (just love the ancient sites in general).
Well, Ring of Kerry I guess too, but more in the off season... and the Giant's Causeway in northern Ireland... Bushmills Distillery is great too :) |

I loved Bunratty Castle and Folk park, the Powerscourt gardens, and the Aryan Islands. |

The Burren in Co.Clare. My mam's family are from there and I love going down just to chill out and unwind. It's a total different way of life to Dublin |

My husband and I took a walking tour of the Ring of Kerry for our honeymoon. It was wonderful to walk from village to village and stay at the B&Bs. The scenery was beautiful, esp. Dingle Bay. Walking tours are a great way to see any country on the cheap. |

Dunmore East, Co. Waterford on a sunny summer day.
Driving along the Dingle Peninsula, feeling like I'm about to fall into the sea.
Cork city for shopping. (Not too crowded).
Actually, pretty much everywhere... |

You have to take a trip out to the aran islands. Inis Mor ("the big island") is probably the easiest to get to. Rent a bicycle at the harbor and cycle it from one end to the other (8 miles) stopping off to see the sights. You can do it as a day trip, but would recommend staying at least one night. See websites below for more information. |
