What can two seventeen year old girls do in Cork Ireland on spring break? |
Me and a friend are coming to Cork for a week or so during spring break. We love to party and meet new people. We also love shopping and want to keep busy visiting all the towns around Cork. We don't want to go too far seeing as the house we have is in Cork but we want to experience Ireland and see as much as we can. Any good ideas? |

I would stick to Cork and maybe stray as far as Kerry. If you really want to see Dublin you can, but its a long trip up and down for such a short stay. Tips:
Partying: Numerous clubs in Cork City, some of the best would be The Classic which is just off Washington St., Havanas and Rafterz(younger crowd than the other two), both of which are in the same area as the Classic. Good pubs for college crowd is the Brogue on Oliver Plunkett st. which is one of the few pubs that is open until 2am. Costigans on Washington st. is another good one. If either of you are smokers, Scotts on Oliver Plunkett St. has an excellent heated indoor smoking room. All these can be found on the web by googling them.
Shopping: Patrick st. is Cork's main thoroughfare with loads of (expensive lol) shops. Prices may be slightly cheaper in the shopping centres in Wilton and Douglas a little outside the city. Mahon Point in Mahon (few mins outside the city) is a huge shopping centre and probably the best place to go if money is no object, with dozens of shops, a giant cinema and a multitude of restaurants in a fantastically modern structure with free parking. It even has a pub in there. Most shops are open til 9pm on Friday nights throughout the city.
Sights: Go on a Cork City Bus Tour/Cork Women's Jail/Middleton Whiskey Distillery/Day trips to places the first poster mentioned/The English Market in the centre of the city/Fitzgerald's Park and University College Cork (both near each other)
Others: Taxis are expensive but depending on your budget worthwhile thanks to our terrible bus service (avoid both at rush-hour 4pm-630pm).
Tipping is 10% unless it says included on menu. Smoking prohibited indoors anywhere!Do not be tempted to walk home late at night, as Cork can be dangerous especially on Friday and Saturday nights (like any City) so a taxi is worth it in that case.
Other than that have a good time!
edit - feel free to email me further questions or put them up here, il check back on this question. |

Blarney, Kinsale, Cobh, Midleton are all good for day trips.
If you want to experience 'Ireland' you need to come for longer, and be prepared to move around more, but Cork and County Cork is a very good start.

Definitely check out Cobh,(which was the last port of call for the Titanic),Middleton(because it's great there),Blarney(for the Blarney castle and stone so as to acquire the gift of the gab-lol).As for partying,as i'm in the same age bracket, definitely the brog on Oliver Plunkett Street,or the Old Oak if you just want to chat, also located on Oliver Plunkett street. As for clubbing, you'll always have a good night out in Gorbys(again conveniently located on Oliver Plunkett Street!).Check out redz as well or fast eddies which guarantees a good night out as well.As for restaurants,I would recommend Captain Americas,Liberty Grill,China Gold,Wagamamas, and Augustines.Word of warning-if you're getting a taxi home,I'd advise leaving the club early as people tend to jump the queue if you come out when the club closes, which can be quite busy!Enjoy your trip, you'll have a great time,i can guarantee it! |
