What can u tell me about the people of Ireland?

Are there certain personality types that Irish people tend to have? Does it differ depending on what part of Ireland they are from?

It differs from person to person really, like in any other country. There are certain traits that people from different counties are supposed to have, but these are really just stereotypes made for fun, they are not really true. For example, people from Cavan are said to be mean with their money, Kerry people are thick, Cork people are rogues, Laois people are harmless, Offaly people are big ignorant feckers, Tipperary people are big drinkers and a bit slutty, Northside Dubliners are gurriers and Southside Dubliners are snobs. There are more, but like I said, it's not really true. People are different wherever you go.

I agree with Priscilla and Orla, everyone is different. The thing that seems to unite everyone is what passes as humour! Be warned, so say we're irreverent is an understatement!!

I think that people from different parts relate differently, but then age plays a part also.

Do be prepared for the Irish sense of humour, it comes in all colours and nobody is safe. I mean this in the nicest possible way.

Sher Ireland is a country divided into 3 distinct parts:

1.Northern Ireland
2.Republic Of Ireland
3.People's Republic Of Cork

Now if you want an insight into how the Cork person thinks, then listen to Tommy Tiernan

As an Irish native,I can tell you that Irish people have an extreme way of seeing everything.

For instance, in some blue collar parts of the country they can be very polite and endearing to each other, mother-like almost, yet in a spilt second they can wedge a fist into their 'best friends' head. They then fall crying into each others arms telling each other how much they love them and how they'd do 'time' for them. A lot of alcohol is usually part of the mix.

They would give you their last penny or the shirt off their back, but never speak to you again if you ask for more than one cigarette in the same hour or worse again, 'accidentally' try to pass their pint of Guinness off as your own. Mean people are known as 'scabs'. They take high offense to meanness.

Many people mistake their chattiness for friendliness. If you recorded the 'great' conversation you had with an Irish person, you'll be shocked to hear that you were giving out all the information and they actually told you nothing at all about themselves. They replied to everything with....'well I once knew a fella who...' You never leave a conversation knowing more than you entered with.

Irish people are always, always thinking about how much of an 'eegit' (fool) you are if a foreigner does something outside of their accepted social behaviour. They'll egg you on and encourage you to 'drink that pint of vodka' but you'll never see them do it themselves. They'll then talk for weeks about the gobshi*te who drank the vodka and get hours of laughs in the pub from that story.

Irish are obsessed with the following:
1 Owning their own property.
2 Loosing their native accent and developing a made-up 'D4' (posh/chav area of Dublin city) accent.
3 Calling their children ridiculous names like Dympna and Concepta.
4 Owning a 4x4 (only if you're a plain looking over 40 woman with 2 children)
5 Friday nights out in a pub, in an part of town you could never afford to live in. This is called 'Pretentious Pint Night'.
6 They are all members of the best (ie most expensive) gyms, yet only about 20% actually go to them.
7 They love religion.
8 They hate religion.
9 They all have an opinion on politics, yet none of them get off their ars*es to vote.
10 Finally, they still hate the British for 800 years of occupation and at one stage they would've died for their country, but now they would only die for the glory of their favourite English football team.
