I was just there in June for my 1st time ....It was really beautiful ,,,too bad the weather didn't enforce that ,,,It was dreary and cold ,,but I found beauty all around me still,,,But the most interesting thing was how friendly all the Irish people all were ,,,They were NOT grouchy or unfriendly ever,,,,Maybe its the beer or the air but It sure was very noticable to all ...I did take notice where I was that they do NOT have the best of roads even on main ones they are so tight that I do not know how 2 cars can fit on them passing at the same time, moreless tour buses...and IT"S GREEN ,,,VERY GREEN even from the air......
My husband and some friends played golf and were in awe at the courses and their ruggedness and natural beauty and challenge,,,I would rather shop but I wasn't as impressed as much at what I saw as they were,,,Next time I may golf,,,,
I am a photographer and some of my best photos ever I took there along the Ring of Kerry,,,awesome to see for sure

Its the best country in the world. For previous posters info not everyone drinks, get drunk, I have never seen a wild horse about unless you can call the travellers horses wild. There is red hair but not all over the place (even though I am one). Women DO NOT wear kilts unless they are in fashion we don't live in the dark ages you know and shut already about the bloody leprechauns

I'm Irish, so I'm biased. I like it a lot, although it's way too expensive.

Seriously, there are so many posters that have the most ridiculously stereotypical views. Like all Americans are fat and stupid, right?

What is it with people thinking we are all drunks? The Irish economy is the strongest in Europe and has been consistently in the top ten economies in the world over the past ten years.
Ireland is different to most European countries in that we take many of our cultural and economic directions from the U.S. rather than France or Germany. This probably has much to do with the fact that so many of our people have emigrated to the U.S. over the years, and the fact that the 'father' of our nation (Eamon DeVelera) was born there. We are a friendly, open people, who punch well above our weight in international business, sport, peacekeeping, literature and art. (and boasting!)

Never been, but I think it's beautiful with all that greenery and I like the accents. I wonder what the economy's like there? being an average American, there's a certain ambiguity surrounding how it is. I wish I could go.

I like them. Very down to earth. I think they are very different people from those in Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland. Very friendly.

People think that we are a bunch of drunks! Hic!
I swear I know someone who isn't a drunk... oh sorry, just realised... I was thinking of a lampost that I was talking to last night!!

Seriously, the weather can be crap, so we need to cheer oursleves up. We like to party. It keeps us sane. And it's not all about drink... some of us eat burgers as well!

greenorlagh
As an Irish person I think that we are great - north and south, east and west. It has stunning scenery and great people. Fantastic culture and superb pubs.

I visited Ireland three summers ago and absolutely loved it. I would go back tomorrow if I could. Unfortunately, I have to keep working to save up for my next trip! I want to stay a month next time. I visited the western side, along the Cliffs of Mohr, Doolin, the Burin and then south west to Cork, Killkenny, Killarney, Ring of Kerry. All lovely. People were so friendly and kind. Roads took a bit of getting used to, but I wouldn't let that stop anyone from renting a car and driving between B&Bs. Mountain roads had the most gorgeous views - and sheep in the roads. In Doolin there were actually donkeys that stuck their heads over the stone walls to be friendly. I am just so anxious to go again and all this remembering is not helping me at all...
