they stole my pa-tat-toes

I should be doing something else
Generally I think Americans are great. Just don't ask me if we have cars/cinemas etc in Ireland! =]

As fine as the rest, until they start talking about their 'Irishness' or when they ask 'where is Ireland?

Orla C
Generally they're considered as any other tourist - a customer to be fed and accommodated. Conversations are also permitted.

But everywhere I go I meet Americans, of course they always have a granny's whose first cousin's niece's sister's granny's brother's neighbour's goat is from Dublin or wherever, and their name was Whatever ... or they have a neighbour from someplace in Ireland, do I know this neighbour ... I'm afraid this is so old now that I don't personally care!

Other than their suspect interest in pedigrees, Americans are fine.

Well they got all the donut shops.

I'm American born and raised-I spent a few years working in Dublin and Belfast- the Irish think us Yanks are great until we start off with"...my great-whoever was from Kerry/Cork/Tyrone/Galway"-once you realize you're a Yank,-i.e. know your place, you'll do fine-also, don't talk about how many Brits your grandfather capped during the 1920's...especially in the wrong section of Belfast...

We like the Americans but sometimes their 'over-niceness' seems false to us. We definitely play our cards closer to our chests than them.
Have a nice day :)

well i judge them on their personal merit

but most of all i think they're really nice except for when they say that their great grandfather's cousin was from ireland and that makes them irish or when they say do you know such a person from ireland, they have troble realising that ireland isn't that small

but i've had very good experiences with americans, except for the republicans LOL

I work in hotels, in a part of the country that deals mostly with Americans, so i have great firsthand experience with them, for the most part you have two different types of Americans, the older and the younger, the former, anyone under 40, are smart, well educated and know there place in the world and the latter. the over 40's who i think leave their brain at home when they travel. one story, and it is true, one American could not find the door of her hotel room, when the manager went in, she told him that she did not open that door because there was a " do not disturbe sign on the door" or another guest who was complaining that his microwave was not working, only to be told that the rooms did not have micro-waves and that he was trying to heat his coffee in a hotel-room safe, so how do you deal with that, it sounds stupid, but it happen's alot, but i have worked it alot of american's and all, without exception have been cool and one of our own, if you ever vist, and please do, don't be surprised by the fact that we all drive cars, live in house's with roofs, and no we don't know your great, great, great granduncle from cavan

i have lived with loads of americans and they are a great bunch....

they are a bit slow in getting our humour...

we had a spare room going and this american girl came over we got on really well and as she was leaving we told her that she could have it but only if she would sleep with all of us (3 guys) to get the room ..... her response was.... "i dont think i can do that"... not even a smile

but apart from that nicest people you could possibly meet
