What do you think of the budget?

Will it make our country better or worse?

WORSE they should pay the politicians minimum wage

we all have less money to spend, so we will be buying less, creating even less stimulus in the economy, creating more unemployment, and more cross border shopping.

He did nothing to counteract the weakening of sterling, and the invisible exports, of what little money we do have being spent abroad. He left the VAT rate, one of the highest in Europe!!
He did nothing to force British retailers , trading in Ireland to bring the sterling / euro rate into line. Even more reason to shop in the UK.

The super rich, are still allowed loopholes to avoid paying tax, there is still no tax on , the politicians favourite past-time, gambling.

But where the real money is going , in on all the government pensions, the tax breaks for politicians, and the TNS allowance of the TD's.. grrrr.

This government just rile me up, so much. Short sighted responses, to long term problems...

Well, I'm keener than ever to start growing my own vegetables !

At least petrol didn't increase, but I'm still not sure what the story is with Education. I was thinking of going back to do a Master's this year, but I don't know if I can get a grant now. Bummer!

I expected a harsh budget alright and we got it. And this is only the start of it. I don't know what effect it will have on our economy long term, I suppose we will be able to tell when Lenihan produces the next budget after this if it worked or not. I can tell you one thing I am sure of: I don't have high hopes for the country for the next 3 years...

Its pretty much all doom and gloom. At least the government did one or two things smart. Petrol ain't gone up, nor drink, reason for drink cos it would shove us to buy up north and they wouldn't get the benefit of it. Thought that was a smart move. The early childcare is gone, sorry who benefits, but I'm delighted. Since when do babies go to the dentist twice a year, need new shoes 4 times a year. Older kids should've benefited from that also. Children's allowance means tested. um, won't affect me, fags gone up 25c, nothing major. I know people won't be happy, but it is a start, and it could've been worse.

Predictable

DB
It's a start

It could have been worse, but just a few things really annoy me- firstly, I think taxes on cigarettes should have been increased further, and alcohol too.I think it's sickening about the under-20s welfare cut also.
I did like the free one-year preschool thing as it will give more jobs to all the young people doing childcare courses right now.
I think Joan Burton made a good point about how much the top earners in the Government are getting paid, and that has to change.

In America, the government would be rounded up and put on RICO charges...

The mafia obviously have opened there books to Irish politicians!!

Say no more!
