No idea. I live in Ireland, was born here, and I've never heard it.

Far more likely to be said by Americans who claim to be Irish, but who are actually of Irish descent.

Eh Rose?? I've lived in Cork all my life and have NEVER heard it before! Common my ****, ha!
I'd say the first answer hit the nail on the head, saying about other nationalities trying to prove their 'irishness'.
But i'd presume it means like, oh crap or oh bother or something!
..not that i ever use the word bother! Hehe!

Don't tell my boss I'm on here

Blarney is a phrase that is never really used in Ireland..like ever but as far as i know it means that whatever the other person just said was a lie. It comes rom the fact that the Blarney stone is supposed to give you "The gift of the gab" ie make you very talkitive

its an acclamation used commonly in ireland. the saying comes from Cork, Ireland.
Kind of an "oh my god!" type of saying.
there's also a long story about a king, a castle and a stone you kiss haha... :)
