What does the Irish people think of Arabs?

I would imagine that there are as many different Arabian personalities as Irish.
The current propaganda buoying up the so-called war on terror doesn't help the image of the Muslim community in general- but don't get me started on that! I think it's a shame that politics is promoting division between the cultures.
Obviously Muslim fundamentalists are nutcases, but presumably no more so than radical Irish Nationalists. I think they are equally misguided.
My Mum is in Oman as we speak and I spent a bit of time in Kashmir years hence. I dont agree with the principle of male dominance and lack of freedom of speech, movement etc for Muslim women. But when I think of Arabs I think of terribly handsome men in turbans- probably as far removed from reality as imagining Irish men to be Leprachauns!. Still, I live in the West of Ireland and in the 1600's Algerians raided the village and stole all of the villagers and took them back to Algeria as slaves, which I thought was an interesting twist of fate. Where are you from and what do you think of the Irish?

As long as you respect our culture, and our religion, you're ok with us.

I'm irish, I've an uncle (through marriage) who's from yemen, I have a friend who's from Iraq and another from oman, I've no problem with them. They have their beliefs, I have mine, no big deal. I suppose the answer to your question would be better to come from someone who has no links to any arabs. one or two or whatever amount of person's view does not count for everyone else's. the only way you'll get a proper answer is if you question the 4.2 million of us in Ireland alone and then you can decide our view.
