Nominally, most of us are Christian. Many people never visit a church except for christenings, weddings and funerals. Sunday attendances are way down in numbers with greater numbers of older folk and much fewer young adults or children.
Yet Christianity is all around, a sort of ethos that is in the air, and it has given us a basic moral framework. But the days are long gone when the clergy proclaimed themselves to be superior to everyone else, and if they said jump, we'd ask how high? People think for themselves now, instead of of taking everything they are told as gospel truth (excuse the pun). The actual influence of the church is not nearly as strong as it was.
Is this what you were asking?

Well I think it's about 80% of us still register as Catholic on the census but it's really only old people who are devout. I have to go on Christmas and the mass for my great aunt but otherwise I never go, I'm not Catholic and my parents are lapsed. I only know three teens who regularly go to mass. However, abortion, euthanasea and gay marriage is still illegal here, the politics are yet to catch up with socialialities

Very little, in the past the church was very influential but has lost credability over the last 10 - 15 years people are more educated and tend to make up their own minds on issues which in the past they would have followed what the church told them

Religion is more important to older generations than it is to younger people

The Church is still very important in the West of Ireland. The majority of people here regularly attend Mass and the priests are key figures in the community. We generally accept the Churches views e.g abortion, homosexuality...
