Ireland is famous for a lot of things

Name - Emerald Isle - due to the rolling hills of richly green pastures. During an overcast day and the grey skies are above, it's so green it even reflects green off the clouds.

History - the many conflicts with England. The Potato Famine, Black '47 (not the rock band but it's based off a year in history)

Exports - Guinness (Stout and the other beers (Kilkenny, now they bought Smithwicks - a great brown ale), Murphy's Irish Stout, Jameson Whiskey, Waterford Crystal, Bellek China to name a few

Landmarks - Blarney Castle, Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, the Hills of Tara again to name a few

Arts - U2, Sinead O'Connor, Yeats (writer), Riverdance, The Dubliners, Christy Moohr, again to name a small few

Folklore - Leperachauns, 4-leaf clovers, St. Patrick and running the mice out of town

Sport - traditional sports - Hurling (not what you do after drinking too much), Gaelic (Irish) Football, horse racing
Sport - national and club teams - rugby, football (soccer)
Sport - general - angling (fishing)

Food - Irish Soda Bread, Brown Bread, Bangers and Rashers, Blood Pudding
(though brown bread and blood pudding are found in other parts of the world, it's a distinctive treat during breakfast to have these)

So Ireland is famous for many facets of life.

During the dark ages the contenant of europe was in a decline. Irish monks travelled to europe and brought education to the poor and rich alike by founding monastrys. It is the one thing the irish have not got credit for, the resurgance of education in europe which in turn helped to found universities and lay the foundations for the renasiance.
Also The discovery of the continent of America, was by a irish monk google "Brendan the navigator". it was not leif erickson, not columbus(he went to galway in ireland to research prior to his expedition to america, there is evidence of this).
Halloween is an irish celtic tradition called "samhan" it is a celebration of the dead and the death of winter and the coming of new life which is spring.
Ireland also has its own version of stone henge (but is alot older, predates the giza piramids. every december 21st the inner chamber is illuminated by the sun. google "Newgrange"
