Ireland's achievements?
For years, the Irish left their homeland & settled elsewhere - many did very well in England, the USA & Australia.
Ireland left the commonwealth around 1950 & became the Republic of Ireland.
During the first World War they agitated for self rule which they achieved & during the 2nd world war they were neutral even though still part of the British Commonwealth.
In both wars however many Irish, both protestant & catholic , joined the British army.
Yes, Arthur Guinness produced a great pint of beer. The Irish do well in sport generally for their size of population & in recent years they have enjoyed an economic boom due largely to the EEC, migrate workers & returning nationals.
They have had some excellent writers, Oscar Wilde , James Joyce & many more. Musically it isn't so good these days however - Bono & Keating! Mind you I heard a great Irish singer the other month whilst on holiday - Howard Moss - go & see him if you get an opportunity.
Ireland's also a great place for the craic.
