Ireland is an incredible country. I just went a few weeks ago. It's a beautiful time to go,I live on the East Coast USA and they were about a month ahead weather wise. Everyone is welcoming and the people couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Have fun if your going.

The Shannon Region is a very special part of the West of Ireland, carved by nature. Water dominates from the dramatic Atlantic coastline to the majestic River Shannon. The welcome awaits!

I think quietgirl has got it right. Shannon is a "new town", and unless you are into birdwatching it is not in itself particularly special. There's not a lot to do there. You are better off heading towards Limerick (about 15 miles away), or heading up the coast towards Ennistymon, Ennis or The Burren. Clare itself is a particularly beautiful county.

i live close to shannon...id say itd be confusing if you werent a local bcoz the signs arent gr8. shannon, the town, isnt very exciting apart from some good shops and the airport but there is a gorgeous walk along the shannon estury just next to a clump of houses. its lovely!

I found Shannon to be quite boring. The pubs were ok but the music scene seems to be smaller than in places like Tipperary. There are fewer restaurants. And the scenary is nice but not as dramatic in the Southwest. It's a friendly place and nice for a quiet weekend but I wouldn't put it on a top destinations list.

Small town with an important airport. Use it as the starting point to other locations unless you have a very short stay.

Hi, there's not much in Shannon, there is the airport but then be on your merry way out of there! I live only about 20 minutes from there, and the west coast is very close, and so beautiful. I would not go towards Limerick but ennis, and then to Clare's west coast. Shannon town is more of a passing through place, industrial, the gateway into the west.
