galway people are really friendly and relaxed.. during summer people will be sitting in the park in the square and beside the spanish arch when the weather is decent chillaxing and drinking and people will definitely be friendly if you talk to them....

dunno if youre planning to work but it is hard enough to get jobs here at the moment so you should try and find a job in advance...

the weather is unpredictable and it rains a good bit :( but people really make the most of it when theres good weather..

if youre staying for the whole summer make sure you go up to the galway races cos they are the BEST craic!! they are on the last week of july/first week of august and you can get a bus up to the racecourse from eyre square...

the arts festival also has some good events... it basically means that any random day you might bump into a parade or street show and also if you like going to shows and stuff there will be loads of things on in the theatres

also you can go on trips with various bus companies to see castles , ailwee caves, cliffs of moher and all things like that. you can book those tours in the tourist office and also the buses leave from there

"the cellar" and "the living room" are two good bars and they also serve really nice food during the day for an affordable price.......

oh and if youre going out at night cps is probably the best club to go to and yay you can legally drink here :)

hope i helped have a good summer and if you need any other help or advice just email me :)

If its fun ya want , there is lots of drinking and the people are great craic.

It tends to rain a lot in Ireland but you could be lucky and get some sunshine during the summer. Irish people are very sarcastic and tend to be friendly and funny and nice. We like to have a good time and drink a lot. I dont know anyting about Galway but I hope you have fun anyway!

we are a very friendly country ,we treat all of our tourists with the utmost respect and enjoy 2 see tourists in our wee green isle , so make sure u bring some warm clothes because our weather in summer isnt always good . and hope u have a great time here .

William G
The weather can be terrible but the craíc is mighty. You are going to a good part. Be sure to visit Sligo when you are up that way.

You are going to love it here in Galway, which is where I live.

Just don't come over here expecting to work as you go, because work is VERY difficult to get in Galway at the moment, unless you have professional qualifications or experience in a specialist field.

Also, be prepared to pay through the nose for accommodation and food. Try to avoid going drinking too much unless someone else is offering to pay, same goes for eating out, although places like McDonald's and supermacs are cheap enough.

Galway in the summer is a wonderful place with a lively atmosphere.
If you can, go spend time in Connemara, where life very much has its own pace.

You can bring your laptop if you want, there are tons of wifi access points all over the city, but also don't worry if you can't, because we also have internet cafe's all over the place.
Be prepared for wet weather, we get plenty even in summer.
There are tourist hostels all over Galway as well, plus you could probably rent a room in a shared house if you want.
Feel free to make an account at http://boards.ie, which is an irish forum, go to the galway subforum, (http://boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=475) and ask questions in there.

Were friendly and the shopping is good but you will be lucky to get a sunny day because it rains here a lot!

You'll have a great time in Galway. I stayed there for a summer once too in the Gaeltacht area. It's a very cultural place and quite fun. Same as anywhere you go now mind yourself and ur belongings.

IRISH AND PROUD
you probably will like it. i know loads of Americans around your age who i met over here who just loved it!

Great to find your roots we all come from Ireland in the USA.

As long as you're polite and don't shoot your mouth off, you'll be fine.

Galway is great, a really fun city. You'll have a blast.

its like any place, different areas have different reputations, northern ireland and the border can be quite hostile due to religion. but dublin and popular tourists areas are generally very friendly, and youll be old enough to drink so have plenty of guinness... just dont be surprised if you get black poo!

Very unfriendly place, bigotry everywhere and racism, ppl who hate immigrants (even white Europeans) inhabitants don't talk to neighbors, transport system of 18nth century, kids without manners and respect who litter everywhere and abuse everyone, drunk fools, cities who look like big villages and have nothing to offer you unless if you are a drinker... Shopping is THE CRAPEST.... I always order stuff from the nest cause I cannot find them here in the shops. Even basic things...

The positive... there are a lot of plans out of here. They lead ppl to other countries such like Switzerland, France, Scotland, Spain...

The Irish hospitality is the biggest myth I have seen so far. I have been almost everywhere in Europe. Everywhere the people look friendlier and more polite, more helpful and curious to other cultures. In Ireland the only thing I heard was "mind your own culture"

BTW I had a lot of American friends. They all left back to US, They have been treated very bad cause one person of their family was Hispanic. Another person I know can't climb higher in his job cause simply he is non Irish. If you really want to waste your money visit Ireland, but watch out for greed. It won't hard that spot
