i think i know what you're getting at. i've been to a couple of other countries and it was pretty much feeling the same inside. i wouldn't have known i was in another country if i hadn't seen the road signs announce it.
the one time i did feel different was the first time i ever went to arizona. i didn't want to go there, i tried to get my company to send someone else. "why would ANYONE want to go to the desert"?, i thought. i remember stepping off the plane being ready to hate this stupid assignment i was on and to hate the stupid desert and view it all as a waste of my time. i'll never forget stepping off the plane--the weirdest feeling i've ever had came over me and a single thought hit me like a jackhammer---"i'm home". i'd never been there before in my life--but this incredible feeling of peace and contentment filled me and all i could think of over and over was "i'm home, i'm finally home".
by the end of my trip i didn't want to come back home. i tried and tried to get a transfer out there, but nothing ever worked out. and i've been back on vacation a couple of times. each time i step off the plane i have that feeling and the same thought hits me---'i'm back home, i'm finally back home'.
ok---this sounds weird, but i think its what you were asking. hope this helps. |

Depending on how long you are flying, very very tired. But after a little sleep it's exciting when you start having a look around and exploring whatever country you are in, the language barrier can be a bit of pain, but can also provide some funny stories. |

Often it doesn't feel any different from being in your own country. For example, travelling across the channel to France when you get off the ferry you recognise the signs because you learned the easy bits of French at school. It seems normal.
The first time I felt like a foreigner was in Johannesburg when I was questioned and the man wrote on his form that I was an 'ordinary alien'. |

your definitely do have to experience it for yourself, but its always so exiting. sometimes it will seem like home at first, but as you go, it gets more and more exciting, byt what you see and do. |

I have traveled to Ireland once. Once we overcame the "jet lag" it felt very strange, but yet familiar. We tromped through a cemetery where early family was burried and it gave me shivers up my spine. It was then I felt truly "home" to where my forfathers and mothers came from. I have discussed this with others and it is explained to me that these feeling are having an "Irish Soul". Another experience was looking out to Galway Bay and the port of Cobh to the ocean and wondered what it must have felt like for those who came before. Sla'nte |

It really depends if they speak your language(or the other way around). If you can't speak w/ them, then you feel REALLY alone, and homesick, unless there is someone there that you know. If you do know their language, than gather your courage, make a friend, and every thing is fine. Also, getting a guide is a FABULOUS idea. You won't feel as lost. |
