What is the access situation in southern ireland's mountains?

There is easy access to almost all of them. If you consider that the highest mountain in Ireland is Carauntoohill 3414 ft (1038 m) in Kerry , well not exactly very high. A brother of mine climbed it on Easter Sunday morning and was back for lunch (ok so a bit late).

Here's a link on the Macgillicuddy's Reeks, with further links to other mountain ranges in Ireland.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
Just go right ahead and climb them!

Access is no problem in Ireland.Mayo has some of the most amazing scenery and mountains to climb.I would recommend Achill island if your looking for some remote hill walking and a bit of surf, its not hard to get to and during the summer the craics mighty. Theres 2 main beaches Keel and keem and all are surrounded by beautiful monutains. You will need O.S map No.31for anywhere pretty much in mayo theres also croagh patrick to climb which is pretty nice,Mweel Rea also and too many more to name.

Cartantouhill is also a handy enough climb with a few different routes to take coming down. The mourne Mountains in Co Down are also breath taking. There is not much on the east coast in the way of hill walking however bray and wicklow have some nice areas.
Check out this website: www.simonstewart.ie and ya know just relax and come over here and play it by ear.
If your an experienced mountaineer or handy enough at it you'll be fine in Ireland just adhere to all the same rules you would have climbing and walking anywhere else. You can get the OS maps anywhere in ireland there about €15 ish and locals in the area are always really helpful, so just talk to people when ya get here is the easiest way.

Just mind the weather cuz the clouds can come in really quick at the top of some peaks and you wont be able to see you hand infront of you k.
Enjoy your trip and best of luck.xxx

There isn't a situation. Just get into them there hills!!

Like a Fox
There is a dragon guarding most of them i'm afraid.

Ah no, just go ahead and climb them, the mountains aren't terribly high anyway.

Melissa
well your fine unless of course you interrupt the teddy bears picnic, thats a bad idea, oh and walking through a fairy ring, really realy bad idea, or of course the leprechaun toll bridge which is different from the troll bridge, you dont wanna run into either of those, you should be okay just look out for the little peoples signs and symbols and go around where they are rather than through, cause the last guy............. he was found singing paddy reilly in the fetal position with shamrock in his ear and a black thorn bush in an area i refuse to mention
