First of all go to this site and look up the hostels in ireland they are very friendly. http://www.anoige.ie/ You will not have a problem finding pubs but be careful. Go to Galway the best party place I think only and hour from Shannon.
Lots to see in County Clare and County Donegal dont forget Giants Causeway.
A lot of old ruins and castle in the little towns surrounding Shannon with lots of history.
Where are you ending up in Dublin. If so the Temple Bar area is my fav place |

lots of great musemes dotted around the country. ireland is easy enough to get around. trains and buses connecting the west to east. totally recommend going to newgrange in county meath, its pretty cool. also christ church in dublin is a must. temple bar is full of irish culture and has a great selection of pubs and clubs. go to dublin castle aswell thats cool. galway is another must. full of history and irishness! |

I would recomend going to the west of ireland for example galway. You get the beauty of the countryside/ seaside as well as the city. there are numerous historical and cultural sites in this area. as well the gaeltacht which is one of the only fully irish(gaelt) speaking areas.not alone the night life is class all year round.
I think summer is best time to go to galway as you have the galway arts festiva,l galway races, and the oyster festival. At this time of year galway is the most alive. And you can always escape to area near by like the burren in co. clare.
enjoy the hoilday!
the irish are friendly ask someone if your not sure.but remember you are still in a foreign country to be careful. |

I travelled to Ireland a couple times a couple years ago. Mostly, don't be afraid to ask people anything you want to know. The People there are Hugely friendly, and love to tell you anything you might ask. DO take in Trinity Collage and the Book of Kells it's Grand.
I'd avoid Belfast, They are friendly, but there is more of an edge than you'll find in Dublin or the more rual areas. Taxi's are fairly cheap but you can walk from one end of dublin to another pretty quickly, as well as their bus service is good. They great thing is, if you don't kow where you are going, someone will, so Definitely ask.
As for the nightlife, there was never a cover when I went (and I went on St. Patty's day...) and most people began goin our ealier than I was used to, more like 5 or 6 and would we'd be back in our hostel by 2 where in Glasgow where I'd been living nothing started till 9-10 and you weren't home till 3 or 4 .
Another thing, if you go over a Catholic holiday EVERYTHING WILL BE CLOSED that day. I unwittingly went on St Stephens day (boxing day to brits and day after christmas to us Americans) And was lucky to find any pub open that night and those that are are usually quiet. Hope this helps... |
