What is the best time of year to visit Ireland with respect to weather and cost?

I would be flying from California and I am wondering what are the best times to go when the weather is still good but not during the height of the tourist season when prices are high.

Most events happening go on during the summer. June isn't bad, I mean last year it rained for a record 41 days non stop, so you can't predict the weather. Judging on the June so far its been pretty sunny and hot (no June Gloom like you guys get). Although its raining today!
When myself and my friends went to CA in 2005 we found it cheaper to stop over in England over and back (cost around €2,000) It's really expensive here also. Everything from petrol to bread and milk are rediculious prices so I can only imagine how much it would cost to stay in a hotel or something.
If you want to avoid tourists avoid Dublin City, I was there yesterday for a bit of shopping and it was busting with tourists! However some of the touristy places are must see and great fun like Fitzsimons in Temple Bar.
If you do go, start saving now and have a good time.

Probably April or October. You will still need your rainproof coat, maybe a light one over a jersey. Come to enjoy,be prepared for any kind of weather.
I hate to say this but the prices in Ireland are high. All I can add is," What price a holiday". Plan ahead and don't stick rigidly to the tourist literature.Enjoy your visit

The past few years May has been the driest month of the year in ireland. Its quite affordable then too flight wise etc. East coast (especially dublin) is more expensive than west coast for accomadation and goin out etc. Defo worth bringing a light rain jacket just in case... theres a reason Irelands so green... lol
Have fun on your trip

i have to say august and september, its not peak tourist time, the weather is usually the best and the evening are long and mild. also the country side is beutiful at this time and every where has a relaxed feel about it

May probably, maybe April but the weather is always unpredictable here.

You're assuming that Ireland as a stable weather system - honey, this is the North Atlantic we're talking about. Four seasons in one day are very common, even in the middle of July. If you want stable weather, go to the Mediterranean.

My husband and i went to Ireland last June for our honeymoon. We went thru a travel agent and he ended up finding us great deals. We are from southern Cali and we only paid $4000 for 12 days plus airfare from la to Dublin. We stayed 3 nights in a 5 starr hotel 2 nights in a castle and 5days in B&B's it was simple amazing. The weather is always ficky in Ireland though its not 4 stable seasons like here in cali. But i didnt mind the weather it stayed light till late around 10-11pm and it did rain a bit but it wasnt cold.
So im sure if you look around you will still find some great deals if you go during the "peak" season.

May is a good time the weather has been great in the past few weeks. It's also not the peak toursist time so it will be cheaper as well.

Irish winters are pretty wet and dreary, but the cost of a visit is low. Summers are warm and sunny, but the cost is much higher. A good compromise is March through May.

i went during july last year, and it was amazing. the sun starts to rise at like 5 am and doesn't set until 11 pm, and the sunrises and sunsets are beautiful. the temperature is great for tourists and walking around. i LOVED it soooo much!!!
