3 hours away from what??
Ya, Galway would be nice, but if its 'countryside' your looking for, Galway is a city, I'd look around Glenamaddy if its countryside. Taking into account the countryside will have very little to offer except countryside. No shops or big venues to pick up stuff. If you could push the boat and go to county Clare, go to the Hills of Moher, deadly scenario, and I think you can even get the bus there from Galway, so you could shop in Galway, and head to Clare for scenic areas...

I agree with the other answerers about Galway, but if that's too much of a treck, Glendalough in Wicklow is really nice too and only about an hour and a half outside Dublin.

Galway if you Live in Dublin, you arrive at the Galway train station and can get the bus to connamara which is about an hours journey and you can see all the country side you want, stunning mountains ,a real and the only forge in killery and beautiful seascapes.

you cant get any nicer then wicklow.around glendalough is beautiful on a sunny day as ye no we dont get much of them!!

Yeah if you go to galway (Connemara) of go to the cliffs of Moher in Clare.

Sorry but i wouldn't have a clue about train/bus fare. You should rent a car for the weekend and you'll get to see much much more.

Well worth it.

If you want to stay close to Dublin then I would suggest going down to Wicklow. But if you want to see the most beautiful scenery in Ireland then I would head over to Kerry. It is a three hour trip on the train. Most of the irish countryside is impossible to get to on public transport so unless you have a car I would recommend getting the train to Killarney! It is a small town that has a massive national park full of wildlife, ross castle, the amazing lakes of killarney that you can take a little cruise on, muckross house and gardens, torc waterfall and many many many more beautiful sites. And the best bit is that all of these are in or close to the town and are easily reached by public transport...but not the conventional public transport...you can get a jaunting cart to bring you to any of these!!! Killarney has got to be the most beautiful town in Ireland...only problem is you will want to stay for more than just one or two days!

Yeah, get outta Dublin, Ya may as well be in Amsterdam or Berlin! Galway is gorgeous, unspoilt and traditional,
HOWEVER...
Head south to Cork and visit Kinsale, its absolutly gorgeous...I was there once for a day, years ago, and remember everything about it, its a well known wee fishing town on the south coast, with quite unbeatable scenery, If anyone disagrees, then strike me down now...!
:-)
