What is the cost of living in Dublin and where can I meet nice Irish people? |
I am an American female and wish to live in Ireland to get my PhD. I spent only a week there in January and loved it! I would like to go to UCD; however, I'm just skeptical because for one, I don't want to go over there and be bored and "broke." So does anyone have any ideas were I can meet people( men and women; friendship)? I would like to have fun sometimes. Also, do you know the cost of living? More than likely I will be living in an apartment that the school will provide. Oh also, I'm 24. Thanks. |

ha who ever said 5000 a month must be spending a lot of money. You can live quite easily on 2-300 a week... drinks are expensive but cost of living is coming down, and dublin is a party town as well,, have been here 3 years working and loving it... to meet people anywhere, the irish are traditionally very friendly people, and ya will have the student crowd am only 25 and its great city for singletons:) if ya need any more info dont hesitate to contact me:) |

it is high but the wages are high as well. dont worry the irish are extremely friendly and you will be fighting them off. you will have more trouble staying in to get some work done as they love to socialise.
edit- ignore the user above, 5000 a month total rubbish you will easily get by on 250 a week excluding rent. |

Cost of living is ok, well its not really in comparassion to Germany (where ive just been) but its manageable, i have a daughter, a mortgage, am a single mum and am in Trinity full time studying, so yes its manageable. Places to meet people, hmmm, Im sure this will be the same as anywhere else you go to? but since joining college, you will make tons of lovely new friends there, who will introduce you to even more people. There are loads of places, like the pubs, library's, gyms etc, and even take on a nighttime course for fun and ul make plenty there too... enjoy your stay, and Im wishing you the best of luck! |

You definitely dont need to make 5000 euros per month, thats ridiculous, a decent apartment in the city centre can cost around 8-900 euros per month but if the college is providing an apartment for you it will be a lot less.
It is expensive especially compared to america but it is quiet managable to live there as a student I have done so myself. You will meet lots of people in the college and outside, its very easy to make friends here. |

youll probably need to make 5000 euros a month. its an expensive city. you can meet people at the pub because they are mostly alcoholics. you will also meet other students because you are doing a phd. |
