It really depends on what your leaving behind to come here. The main problem here at the moment is finding a job so you won't have that worry. I would not consider a permanent move here as the cost of living is too high and it ain't generally a 'posh place' believe me. I would consider it if you want a change of scene but maybe only temporarily. Don't burn your bridges. Think very carefully.
I don't think we rely on the EU to keep us afloat any longer but they were extremely generous to us in the past. Theres no denying it. Lets be honest. I hate hearing rubbish like we are the richest country in Europe. God do we have one building thats more than like 4 stories high? Ahhhhh show me the wealth. Where the hell is it. We have one decent motorway in whole of Dublin called the M50 and they have two men and a shovel working on that at the moment. Rich my *** |

The UK is a much better place to be in at the moment. Shops in the republic are closig down as shoppers are flocking to the north, which provides the UK with more money. The traffic is unmerciful and there is not a nice atmosphere in the country at the moment, I will take more than a few years before this mess will be sorted out. Here is a article from the site Financeadvice.com which contrasts between the UK and Ireland
After experiencing one of the longest periods of sustained growth in its history it seems that Ireland is on the verge of a recession with reports that the economy will shrink by 0.4% during the remainder of 2008. When you consider that countries such as Ireland, which has experienced substantial growth and inward investment over the last 20 years, are on the verge of recession the signs do not bode well for the UK.
Whether the UK will actually technically enter recession will probably become apparent over the next two or three quarters because unlike Ireland, the UK is a very large economy and takes some time to change direction. However, the diminishing funds available for inward investment into the UK economy do not look good and the increased strain on the public purse is starting to tell with the voting public. The high street had a boost in May but this is likely to fall off sharply during the rest of 2008.
The UK government was recently censured by the EU parliament for teetering on the brink of breaking EU rules on financial measurements, although there was no direct response to this accusation from the UK authorities. |

there was low unemployment about a year ago around 4.5% but now its around 8% and there is a deep recession I suppose it is the same as the rest of the world anyway |

Yes, It's bad here..... 8.3% and raising. The public finances are in the red and things are quite, but then again I don't know a country that isn't in this situation |

It's pretty much the same wherever you are in the world. Having said that, if you already have a job before moving over, you'll not be better or worse off in moving to Ireland.
Ireland is a vibrant and friendly country and I would encourage anyone to move. However, the only downside is that Southern Ireland is very expensive, relative to other countries But with regard to economical problems, we are no different to any other country at the minute.
Good luck in your choice. |

At the moment things are not good, and I would not advise coming here for a couple of years until the situation improves. |
