I would advise you to check out AerLingus.com. They have radically changed their fares in the last few years, and now offer extremely competitive fares. You can fly direct to Ireland (Dublin and Shannon) from Chicago, L.A. and many east coast cities for less than 500 dollars. Other carriers such as US Airways, Continental, American and Delta also fly direct to Ireland, but I think they are somewhat more expensive than Aer Lingus at the moment.

Travelling through London is usually more expensive

Try book as early as possible, the lowest fares seem to be with delta airways and aer lingus, I got my flights from dublin to new york round trip with delta and the next cheapest were aer lingus

Usually flying on the weekend is most expensive. Flying red-eye or "last minute" when they work you in is sometimes cheaper.

depends on whether you want to land safely

Learn to fly or become the presidents escort.

Air India. Seriously, they are cheap. But, you'll smell like curry when the flight is done.
