Skin P

What is wrong with them?

why do people who are not irish and have never been to ireland assume that irish people talk like the leprechauns in darby o gill and the little people. for example: "top o' da mornin to ya" , "t'be sure t'be sure" , "oo look at dat wee laddy"
Just to inform everyone I am irish living in ireland and im pretty sur we dont talk like that.
Do you think irish people talk like that? Were you surprised to find out irish people dont talk like uncivilised alcoholics? It makes my blood boil!!

They are only winding us up.

It is funny. If a nation cannot laugh at themselves, they are a very sad nation.

I know who I am and do not care what stereotype people throw at me.

Why would one care what strangers think of them?

Anyway Happy Saint Patrick’s Day

And shure have a pint of Guinness

I should be doing something else

Ehhhhhhh calm down calm down.

Anyway, I'm sure 'look at that wee laddy' would be Scottish.

erm, we don't. I think you've been watching too many bad Irish standup comics who complain about the same thing.

We are not all just shamrocks and shillelaghs you know: our Taoiseach has just announced in Washington that we have isolated the gold gene from Leprechaun DNA. This is hailed a great breakthrough which is to replicated in financial management recruitment
A steep rise is expected in the Stock Market in the morning.
Typically, our Government have neglected to patent this so we are really governed by brown envelope begorra duffers.

I agree with the other answerer, we don't. Where are you getting this idea from? Media sources? Exactly how accurate do you think they are?

Most people have never even seen darby o gill - I know I haven't. How old is that film?

Has it occurred to you that just maybe they are joking?

darragh o

Talking as a 'brit' an Irish accent is hard to do..I'm only getting to grips with it now, a number of years on..so 'brits and americans' simply cannot manage it.

Please don't take it so personally..and just chill..

Thankfully not everyone is so ignorant.

I always thought they talked Dublin 4 or with a Dublin 4 drawl. I really do not think that it was intentional. This whole thing started probably before alot of us were even born. Don't blame us. Put the blame where it belongs. The television, newspapers, radio, etc. If they were to tell it like it is and not how they want it to be it may help in putting an end to it.
