From the ones I've met I find foreign workers friendly, hard working, very dedicated to their families and own countries and one of the main reasons we've had such good economy over the past decade.
The Celtic Tiger would never have gone on for as long as it did if we did have a sufficient workforce to keep it going.
In any case now that we have a down turn in the economy, which is affecting the construction and catering industries it's mainly the foreign workers who are most affected. That's why 1000's are returning to their country of origin.
Where would the millions of Irish people be, who left this country over the past 200 years if they were not welcomed into their new countries?
We benefited why shouldn't a hard working Polish person come here to work, pay there taxes. Fair play to them I say. |

I have no problem with it.
In a few years time, I'd love to have the opporunity to travel and work abroad and I would hope to be welcomed in other countries.
Edit: To the person above...It is illegal to pay someone below the minimum wage. If you know places that are doing this, why don't you report them? |

Hi Marrie!
I think you should review your point of view. I guess you are mistaken.
Some people would rather receive income support than have to work.
In addition, foreigners do jobs which requires no skills at all and they contribute to the economy of this country by working hard and paying taxes.
Irish people are welcome in many countries, I guess they are lucky to meet open-minded native people.
All the best! |

As someone who has been a foreigner working in another country, I don't have a problem with foreigners coming to Ireland to work. It's not that they are taking all the jobs, because there are plenty of jobs, but the ones I have hired to work for me have been more efficient and cost-effective than Irish guys. I've had them working as handymen, doing small jobs in the house.
If you can't get a job, it's not because of some foreigner, it's because you are not making enough of an effort. The jobs are there. |

The English used to say the same thing about the Irish. |

The Irish who 'can't get work' because of migrant workers need to improve their skills. When the Irish are prepared to work as hard and to as high a standard as some of our 'foreign' friends, then they will get work.
The years of slipshod expensive 'workmanship' by those in the building trade are coming back to haunt them.
I welcome anyone to this country who wants to work hard. |

There are a lot of them but they do seem to be very good workers so I think they deserve the jobs they get.

I should be doing something else

I have absolutely no problem with anyone coming to work here as long as they accept our way of life and make an effort to integrate themselves into our society.
Any foreign people I have worked with have been very nice.
Ask yourself this, if you could go to another country and earn way more than you do at home, wouldn't you go there?
Remeber, a lot of these people are leaving wives and young children in their home country, they are not getting it easy, especially coming up against narrow minded idiots like yourself. |

If they come to work and pay their share of taxes like the rest of us, they are welcome. They are often doing the menial jobs that we wouldn't consider doing ourselves. The more people that come, the more services we need to provide for them - more housing, more food suppliers, more hairdressers, more everything ... so in fact they are instrumental in job creation. That is what has kept the Celtic Tiger purring for so long. |

Same thing the Irish did in the USA, Canada, Australia, England, for years and years. But don't worry, with the way the economy is doing and the way Ireland remains a backwards thinking ultra catholic society, soon enough all the foreigners will be gone and you guys will have this place just for yourselves and the very few crazy foreigners who decide to settle down. As for me, I'm leaving next week to live in EUROPE, thanks God after 10 years here in Dublin. Really happy! |

What about all the Irish going abroad to London to work? Same thing.
How can you say this about foreigners when so many Irish work in the northern part which is British and elsewhere in Uk. They are therefore foreigners taking British jobs ! |

I agree with you totally...they should fk off home to their own countries....MY OPINION-- i know too many people who are out of work at the minute |

OK

I think it's unfair because they come over here after going to college and can only get a job making sandwiches. I also don't like that there is no screening for criminal records. I do understand that this is not the case for most people but it does happen a lot. |
