the first answer is completely wrong. to sum it up, ireland has a government that at present is fairly centre/centre-right. but the government tends to lean between centre-left, centre, centre-right according to public opinion.

*note, if you are american, the american difference between left and right is very different to the rest of world and that includes ireland. what an american would call left (ie. the democrats) would still be called very right wing by european standards.

The TYPE of Government is a Democratic tri Cameral Republic elected on universal suffrage.

The KIND of Government is a corrupt self serving gravy boat of pirates.
The members are the most overpaid scroungers in Europe and beyond. There is a coterie of "on-the-take" junior ministers.
Semi state bodies are the honey pot for the "indigent" camp followers.
Never: never never has a disgraced member been rusticated .. "sure it's only the culture" me asze.
Should you ever hear "financial regulator" think of BISTO gravy variety.
"Soft Landing" is yet another article of deceit. The Government "stamp-dutied" the vulnerable family forming hopefuls into borrowings from crony bankers to bloat the exchequer take .Government did "PROXY BORROWING through the needy hopes of beginners AND gave tax breaks money flush Medics and Lawers WHO sublet ..
Now the matter of the Ballybrit tent ...Builders. Developers, Bribery and "money on horses"
These poooles are a disgrace to the Glorious Dead who founded our State. long before the brown envelopes ..... Lisbon " No "

A democratically elected government that operates off a PR-STV system.

We have a republic government that is voted on every four years, unless Brain Cowen (our Taoiseach/PM) manages to make it collapse (wouldn't put it past him)! And we're democratic and we're nuetral in wars.

Ireland is an island that has two seperate countries - the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The latter is part of the UK system but has also got a local assembly - which has no tax gathering powers. The Republics is as described elsewhere.

Ireland has a parliamentary republic government. Ireland's main economic resource is its large fertile pastures, particularly the midland and southern regions.
