county Clare, its a great place, not very touristy, when I was there I stayed in a small town called Carihgaholt, it is very close to the cliffs of Mohr and Galway, beautiful part of the country

limerick(saying it because i live there) but if your into music, check online around the time you'll be arriving for any concerts or gigs or djs that may be visiting the city around that time. its non stop all year round in limerick for big name artists playing little intimate venues. galway and cork are along the same lines too.

Carrigaholt is a tiny and not very well known town on the Shannon Estuary, it's lovely. I suppose if you're American it's near Galway, but it is in fact a lot closer to Limerick.

I like the west and south-west, but I'm biased because I live there. But it has everything - coastline, cliffs, beaches, caves, mountain walks, pasturelands, monastic settlements, castles, great houses, and lively towns and villages where there's always something going on.

It is the area most prone to Atlantic weather, I suppose, so it's not exactly St Tropez - but it does mean that the people who come here really want to come here for reasons other than the weather.

I agree - the south seems best to me. I studied in Cork for a year and really liked the whole southern area, east to west. Of course, as mentioned, it's hard to find bad scenery in Ireland, but craggy green hills can get monotonous on occassion. The south is also slightly more likely to have a bit of sunshine and there are some smooth sandy beaches there, good for horse riding.

To be honest, there isn't really a bad part of Ireland, all area's offer something new, the scenery is fantastic..

Union Hall west cork! Beautiful coastlines and beaches. Not very touristy....just the right amount...very central to towns such as skibbereen and clonakilty. Great place to just drive around and look at all the sights and some of the best restaurants in the country with all fresh produce for a very reasonable price. I'd go self catering myself...check out Pier Holiday Homes.
