They are separate countries. Northern Ireland, politically, belongs to the U.K. and is ruled by Parliament. The Republic of Ireland is its own entity and has its own government. The Republic broke free entirely from Britain (which had ruled them for over 800 years) in 1949.

Ireland is known as the republic of ireland. Ireland has their own government and its its own country.

Nothern ireland, Yes its part of ireland, but its ruled by the biritsh government.
Its just part of the uk but the counties are in ireland.

During the war between the uk and ireland, the uk took 6 of irelands countys (which is now known as northern ireland)

They are two different countries occupying the same island. Northern Ireland is part of the northern tip of the island and is politically part of the UK. The Republic of Ireland occupies the rest of the island.

Not going to get into the politics.

Northern Ireland is governed by Great Britain.
Ireland, known as The Republic of Ireland, is it's own country.
