La la la

What would the Irish say?

I'm American and I am wondering if you can kind of 'translate' these sentences into Irish English for me? (i.e., replace any words that an Irish person would NOT say with something they would). If you need a region to go off of, County Mayo's what I'm most interested in.

-Some terms for beer

-Some terms for a woman/teenage girl (not rude ones - stuff equivalent to chick, broad, lady, lass, girly, etc.)

-"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

-"Isn't that hilarious/funny"

-"I'm just a regular girl"

-"Quit being a jerk"

Thanks in advance!
Additional Details
I really don't mean any offense. There are tons of colloquial terms used in the States and I was just hoping for a few Irish ones. I know the Irish aren't that different, but everyone has slang.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
There's no such word in the Irish language for 'jerk' although knowing the Gaelgoir mafia there's probably a new word that goes something like 'jerka'

Is it a girl you're trying to impress?

I think you have an idea of the Irish that's about 100 years out of date.

-Some terms for beer
Beer, Drink... Soup... although that's a completely stupid one that you shouldn't use. Use the word Beer.

-Some terms for a woman/teenage girl (not rude ones - stuff equivalent to chick, broad, lady, lass, girly, etc.)
Use Lady, girl or women even, women can sound quite aggressive though, example: let me buy you a drink woman.

-"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
What would you like to be when you grow up? I can't see anything wrong with saying it the way it is.

-"Isn't that hilarious/funny"
Both are fine, "class" would be another one, or "deadly".

-"I'm just a regular girl"
Nothing wrong with that, maybe say normal instead of regular.

-"Quit being a jerk"
Don't say jerk. A**hole & w**ker would be good, or c*nt.

Words for beer are pretty standard. 'The black stuff' obviously is reserved only for stout, and only a minority of people drink tht as their primary tipple. Most people say 'drink' or 'pint', as in
'Will we go for a drink/pint?
'I'd murder a pint'
'Can I buy you a drink?'
We use the round system too - if your story is set in a bar don't forget that a small group of friends would usually take it in turns to buy a round, and that we don't usually run up tabs - you order and pay at the bar each round.

Generally, we just say girl or young one (pronounced 'young wan', as in:
'Who's that young wan over there? Is she Paddy's daughter?'

"What do you want to be..." stays the same.

"Jeez that's gas"/ "That's mad"

"Sure I'm just the same as anyone else"

"Would you ever cop on" / "Would you cop on to yourself" / "Stop being such a gobshite" / "Stop being such a d!ckhead".

What chapter are you on now? Will we have the grand launch here on Y!A Ireland?

-Some terms for a woman/teenage girl (not rude ones - stuff equivalent to chick, broad, lady, lass, girly, etc.)...bird,

-"What do you want to be when you grow up?"..that's fine.

-"Isn't that hilarious/funny"...this is also fine

-"I'm just a regular girl"...I'm just a normal girl

-"Quit being a jerk"...Langer

Beer: A few scoops, a pint.

Girl: Young one, otherwise the same

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" - the same.

Hilarous/funny - the same, we also use the word 'gas'.

"I'm just a regular girl" - the very concept is alien to Ireland. We know and accept there's no such thing as 'regular' or 'normal' when it comes to people.

"Quit being a jerk." - "Stop acting like such an ****."

No offence taken :-). Have a nice time.

the girl from mayos answers are pretty good.. also another word we use for girl is "caillĂn" (pronounced coleen) which is irish for a young girl.

Also:
Buckeen for a boy
Ludarmán (not spelt right) is an eejit
feck off would ya instead of jerk
gas craic(crack) for fun
mighty for great e.g. "he's mighy, it was mighty craic"
the craic was 90 (it was fun)

We NEVER use jerk or regular or quit or broad or any of that stuff!

Just "beer" I'm afraid, usually we say "do you want a (insert brand name here)?"

Lassie (but that's really just with the over 50s)

-What do you want to be when you grow up?" - same thing here really, but when talking to people in secondary school it's really more "what do you want to do when ypu leave school?"

-"Isn't that hilarious/funny" "That's really funny"

-"I'm just a regular girl" no one really says that!

-"Quit being a jerk" Stop being a ********/muppet/spa/idiot!

reginaldstower
terms for beer are pint, lager.
