I had to laugh at your question 'When is summer over there' because we don't know either, and we're here in Ireland.
Summer in Ireland is a state of mind, my dear. Nothing like your Californian summers.
Technically the months of June, July, August, and early September are summer, but it has rained a lot, and been very cold, today it's under 20 degrees celsius and overcast.
That said, summer is probably the best time to go because many of the towns and cities have local festivals and events, which are great fun (going with the 'summer is a state of mind' philosophy).
Seeing as you're from a very warm part of the world, you will need to dress in layers and very importantly, wear soft, light, warm silk scarves around your neck, to prevent getting a cold. You would also need a room with central heating, so you might be as well to go with the big hotel chains; however if you're feeling brave, you could also chance the Bed & Breakfasts and budget accommodation, so contact the Irish Tourist board for information in that regard. If you have any special dietary requirements, you need to tell them because not all places do a vegetarian breakfast, for example. |

Well, I think July or August is your best bet, but no guarantees! You're not going to find real hot weather no matter when you go, (I just heard from some people that moved there, and they said Ireland was having a "heat wave"... it was in the mid 70s!) and it can rain and then be sunny again in a matter of minutes, and it rains just about every day unless there's a rather rare period of dry weather. I'm from southern Oregon where it often gets 90s-100s degrees in the summer, and I've been to Ireland twice in July and it was in the high 50s and 60s. It was nice to get a break from the heat there, but then I love Ireland so much that I'd be happy to go in the dead of winter! :)
Summer IS the height of the tourist season there however, so it's the most expensive time to go. B&Bs are a good place to stay, but if that's too dear, you might consider a hostel. Also, if you're planning on traveling with a small group, self accommodation is a good option. You get a whole house, and you can cook your own meals there, which really saves on your food bill! Hope some of this was helpful... Have a wonderful trip, and don't forget to take an umbrella!!

Well "the summer" is the same time as where you are and that would probably be the best time because more would be happening, but the weather is usually best in around May/June. |

All of what Orla C said was good but if you were thinking of coming then July or August is probably the best time to come. Thats when all the good festivals and stuff happen (Galway races, Oyster festival and arts festivals). chances are it will be very busy if you come then.
If your really concerned about the weather you probably have the best chance of it not raining every day in august/september time (or maybe may) |
