Donegal is in the North West, but not in Northern Ireland across the bridge. I was there about 20 years ago - extremely beautiful country. I was only 17 at the time. We broke for tea every afternoon, and ate a lot of potatoes and sausage. Stayed with a bunch of relatives of a friend. Best vacation I ever had.

i dont know why people are saying Donegal is in the south! its in the north west, in the republic of ireland, how can it be in both the northwest and the south, it makes no sence

Orla C
Donegal is in the far north-west of Ireland, but officially part of the Republic, which is the south.

deburca98
Donegal is in the Republic of ireland, if you used this term instead of "southern ireland which is a country that does not exist ".
It is located in the north west of the country and has irelands most northernly point.

Donegal is part of the Republic of Ireland, situated in the NW of the island. It is also one of the three counties in Ulster that are outside Northern Ireland.

Whilst being part of the 'south' its most northerly area is further north than all of Northern Ireland.

Courtney B
It is a county in Eire. However, it is in the province of Ulster, along with the 6 counties in Northern Ireland and the counties Monaghan and Cavan in the South. Donegal is considered one of the "border" counties.
