Ireland is in a really awful mess., that's where it is.
Many years of poor government where they mismanaged & wasted the high levels of duty & tax income from the European led boom (especially in housing) has left the Republic of Ireland in a really bad situation;
they blame it on the world credit crunch but it is their incompetence that is responsible.
So sadly Ireland is in the swamp or cesspit or quagmire.
Where is this?
Ireland is on the outskirts of the EU, to the west of mainland Britain & across the Atlantic Ocean from Canada/North America.
Hopefully, with the help of the other eurozone countries & Britain, Ireland will recover from this crisis.

It's just above Australia in the Pacific. We're fairly close to Borneo.

North-east Atlantic, the island to the west of Britain.

Ireland is situated in the Atlantic Ocean and separated from Great Britain by the Irish Sea. Half the size of Arkansas, it occupies the entire island except for the six counties that make up Northern Ireland. Ireland resembles a basin—a central plain rimmed with mountains, except in the Dublin region. The mountains are low, with the highest peak, Carrantuohill in County Kerry, rising to 3,415 ft (1,041 m). The principal river is the Shannon, which begins in the north-central area, flows south and southwest for about 240 mi (386 km), and empties into the Atlantic.

"The geographical alignment of Ireland indicates latitude of 53 o 00' N and longitude of 8 o 00' W. The particular latitude of Ireland suggests its location in Northern Hemisphere. The country of Ireland has integrated the five-sixths part of Ireland Island amid the North Atlantic Ocean. This terrain is located to the west of Great Britain."

Put Ireland in Google maps and you will see for yourself.

There is no such country as Ireland. The island is known as Ireland. That island is split into two seperate countries:

1) The Republic of Ireland and
2) Northern Ireland

It is NOT west of the UK as NI is part of the UK.

I spose this will get me loads of thumbs down for being correct.
