It's Dublin 16, on the south side. Some very nice houses around there. Here's a map of Rathfarnham in the context of Dublin itself:

You can see Rathfarnham just south of Terenure, and north of the motorway (blue line encircling Dublin)

I have pinpointed the village of Rathfarnham here:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1415680

since Google maps does not locate it. From the link above you can work out your directions in miles or kilometers.

When I say "village", this is the historic core! The area is almost totally surburban with nice semi-detached houses and some apartments.

It is located to the south of Terenure, and to the east of Templeogue, in Dublin 14 and Dublin 16.
The area of Rathfarnham includes Whitechurch, Ballyboden and Ballyroan.
Dublin Bus 74a goes there from Pearse Street in the city centre.
Nutgrove Shopping Centre is in Rathfarnham.
