I loved Cork and the south in general. Dublin was fun, but it seemed a little too crowded for my liking. Southern Ireland was full of colorful mountains (esp. near Kerry area) and rich rugged seas. Also fell in love with the little town of Blarney and the Blarney Castle. Sadly though, I wasn't brave enough to bend over backward to kiss the Blarney Stone. |

the river Shannon, between Atholon, and Ballina. it is beautiful and peaceful country. perfect to troll down in an old, re-camed, Guiness barge! |

Hello Donal,
I am a Galwayman, and anywhere within the county is my favourite place, especially if I am in the mountains, in the Sleive Auchty Range, and after those hills, I am a Connemara man, and anywhere from the Corrib to the Atlantic is home to me, although I am not a fluent Irish speaker, I have never had any trouble making myself understood, any where in the whole of Ireland. I am at home the moment I land at either Dublin or Shannon, or for that matter by ship from Holyhead, I live in England mostly for family reasons, although a lot of my Family are in Ireland, I was taken to England by my parents when I was 11 yeras old, as my Father was retiring from his job as First Officer, on the Shell Tankers, and he was with them for 33 years even through the 2nd World War, and was only sunk one time, and after living in the U.S.A. for a year, he was Seaward again.
Every year, since I arrived in England, I have made it my patriotic Duty to return home, and live In Ireland for as long as I was either let or free to do so, due to my employment, I am now retired myself from my Job as an H.G.V. Driver of 42 years service. I am on the verge of bringing my wife to live our retirement in Galway in a couple of years when my pension kicks in, and we have sold our house in England, a house in which we raised 11 children, 4 of our own and 7 adoptees, ( that's about a half dozen more than Maddonna Huh?). and each of my children are keen to settle in Ireland too, whatever the cost.
So it looks like anywehere west of the Shannon will do for us, and thanks will be given to our God when we are at last and Finally home again, for keeps..Well Donal, I hope this answers your query. Good Luck and God Bless you for asking me........ Bye........Tony M |

Roscommon, Sligo, Ballina in fact anywhere along the south west side I love it, and hope to move there soon,it`s also beautiful further south (I`ve never been to northern Ireland so can`t comment on that) the scenery in the areas I visit are breath taking especially the Lough`s when the sun is rising and there`s an early morning mist it`s the stuff that dreams are made of. |

County Galway is the best! Close by to all the beautiful spots like Connemara and the Maamturk mountains, and the city of Galway is by far my favorite in Ireland! Best pubs, best people, best music, best scenery... Galway! |

Cork is a brilliant city - but i'm biased cos I live there - ha! But west cork is really beautiful esp when you have a goregous sunny day. Places like the old head of Kinsale (and Kinsale itself) and Glandore are gorgeous - scenery is breathtaking! We have a great country - don't knock it!! The Cork and Kerry region has the best scenery tho in my opinion |
