Wilde but he wasn't too fond of being Irish.

I like Bram Stoker but I've only read dracula.

Then there is a poet that I like but I can't remember his name, it's been years since I read any of the stuff.

slipstreamer
Samuel Beckett if I am going for deep, Roddy Doyle if I want a somewhat lighter read.

Flann O'Brien is one I really admire overall. Brilliant writer.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
George Bernard Shaw and Pat McCabe.

Tap
James Joyce
Tim Pat Coogan
Sebastian Barry

Also like Seamus Heaney's poetry as well.

past would be Jonathon Swift, cos i love his Gullivers Travels story.
And Bram Stoker, im a huge fan of horror stories and Dracula is an all time classic and has led to so many spin offs.

For modern, i really like Roddy Doyle and his Barrytown Trilogy. Also Paddy Clark Ha Ha Ha is very good.

Edit: I forgot C.S. Lewis actually....loved the narnia chronicles when i was younger.

Roddy Doyle - to my shame he's the only one I've read, but I do feel that his novel about domestic violence was very insightful.

Tid
John Keane
DWTSOT: I hear ya...whats the crack here? Probably some eejit who got reported.

Sean O Casey - loved his life story and his editions of his autobiography.

Why on earth would anyone give a thumbs down because I like Sean O Casey? What sort of people are out there who do that sort of thing?

Orla C
Walter Macken, of the past.

Of the present, Michael Coady and Ciaran O'Driscoll. And Frank McCourt.

And of course, the great Marion Keyes, and Maeve Binchy.

Forgot about John B Keane, he too was a great writer ....

I can't have favourites .... not when it comes to writing!
