Which of the universities in Dublin is best recognized? |
Have pretty much decided on a degree in Actuarial Maths if i get the points for it. However its available in both Dublin City University and University College Dublin. Personally I was very impressed with the dcu campus but my parents would prefer I go to UCD as they feel the degree may be better recognized from there. Is this true or is dcu well recognized also? |

No, DCU, though it may, in fact, be better than UCD, has the stigma that all of its students are drunkard slackers. Actuarial Maths at DCU is better, but the fact is that UCD has some gravitas associated with the name. |

Go to the university you think you will enjoy the most. Student satisfaction surveys (based on stuff like facilities, subject choice, tutoring quality) put DCU ahead of UCD/TCD time and time again. If you enjoy your time at uni you are more likely to do well academically, and if you get a first class honours degree from DCU it will compare favourably with a degree of any result from any other college. Employers also like graduates from DCU, UL and the ITs as they feel they are more prepared for the world of work. The only scenario I would see UCD as trumping DCU would be if you plan on going into academia, in which case you may (possibly) have more choice at postgrad level if you were in UCD, but even then, if your DCU grades are good enough you can still compete equally.
It's more than likely some time since your parents were in education - they may have old-fashioned prejudices against the newer unis that are completely unjustified. DCU is an excellent college. Go with your own instincts. |

DCU is also recognised, and it's the same examining body, as far as I know. |

Chris Brown is the man!

they will both be equally recognise, theres not that much of a difference in the two, its the quality of degree you get thats important. push came to shove, UCD. but if you prefer DCU, then go to DCU, you might come to regret it if you don't go where your heart is set on! |

Guaranteed Irish!!!

I would think they are both the same when it comes to being recognized. Its just a matter of choice.I do know that D.C.U is not a recognized university as long as U.C.D I know it was the national Institute of Higher education before that.I would go and visit both and ask questions about the course.I would agree with above students in DCU have rep of being drunken slackers |

DCU!!
im currently studying in dcu. i know people doing actuarial maths and they love it.
i have friends in ucd and ive stayed over there a few times.. the place is horrible..
just concrete concrete concrete..
dcu has a real great atmosphere. everyone is so friendly and gets on so well.
the degree's from both universities should be the exact same..
ucd isnt a better university..its just bigger! |
