What do you mean by lax? I mean this in a completely non hostile fashion, I would genuinely like to hear your view
Generally speaking with Ireland the traffic was all the other way, it was unexpected to have the tide turn the other way. Irish Nationality law was brought in line with Nationality law in some other countries fairly recently. And they have tightened up the requirements to acquire a work permit. I'm unclear how the situation is with asylum seekers & illegal migrants.
The Common Travel Area between the UK & the Republic of Ireland is also under threat as they're contemplating signing up the Schengen Agreement. The fact that every gobsh*te and his girlfriend is encouraging their friends to enter the country illegally via the Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland border is probably a factor as well.

Laws on immigration ain't as 'lax' as they used to be. They used to be, and there was awful gaps that badly needed fixing, slowly but surely Irish law is following England, Canada and Australian law. |

Hardly.
I don't have a problem with immigrants coming in. Ireland has had immigrants coming in for many generations, and they have contributed to our indigenous culture.
Sean Nos singing is Arabic, instrumental music comes from all parts of the Mediterranean, and even the dancing is far close to Spanish and African than the purists would have you believe. |

In America our laws and government are run by the corporations for the banks. What they want is cheap labor. And also they want educated people so they hire people from other countries where they can get a better education. Because you need to be very rich to get a good education here very very rich. They, the corporations, are trying very hard to turn America into a third world country so they can exploit us as they do the rest of the third world countries. They almost have us there. |
