Well, you answered your own question really. They're illegal, and the gardaí do seize the ones they discover. There are just too many people buying them for the cops to be able to catch them all.

Not everyone uses them irresponsibly, they add to the atmosphere on Halloween night once a responsible adult is in charge. My dogs go nuts too.

Just keep reporting the little buggers who cause public nuisance. I'll be using a big stick this Halloween.

Grotbags
I'm more concerned about the scumbags who tie fireworks to the tails of cats and dogs, and sadly it happens every year!

You could say the same about alcohol, tobacco and virtually every food product

Maybe the Gardai are more vigilant in my area. Last year fireworks were virtually non-existent, and also bonfires on Bonfire Night in June.

hmmmmm Eggy Weggys
coz there not for children or animals

Guinevere
There is nothing wrong with fireworks, its the people that use them thats the trouble.

If they are used properly and safely, they are beautiful.

The loud ones should be banned, there is nothing attractive in huge bangs.

Fireworks are traditional to celebrate something. there is a big market for them, there for they sell. My dogs are ok with fireworks, but an my old dog used to think it was someone breaking into the house, so we took her for a walk. fireworks can injure people, but so can many other things, preconditions have to be taken to avoid this, but i don't want fireworks to just become another thing that we cant use because they go against health and safety.
i don't agree with people using fireworks for weeks after bonfire night, as this is unfair on people who do have problems with them, they should only be used on a special occasion (or on the day of the celebration). fireworks should also not be set off late at night, as this can disturb small children.

GAVIN E
They are only only dangerous if they are mis-used. As for animals, then they should be kept well away from any fireworks.

Fire works have been sold or made for hundreds of years. Its just people and children are more irresponsible now.
