Like a lot of other people stated the U.S. and Canada have a large number of people with Irish heritage. Not unless your American Indian your an alien with heritage going back only a few hundred years or less. So when you try to find your history, very important. You have to go back where your ancestor came from.
Also another reason is this, great music, great literature, great myths, great history, great culture, amazing people, amazing island.

Because many of us are Irish. The term Irish-American exists for a reason. I may be 3rd generation removed, but I am still Irish!

Well obviously because Ireland is a great country with great people....it's quite simple actually!!

A lot of Americans have Irish ancestors and going to Ireland fulfills that need in our blood to inhale the same air, and experience the same things that our Irish ancestors did. Added to that, the mythologies and history of Ireland is so complex and interesting, I think it adds to the spell. All European countries have such an amazing story to tell; the only thing is we, Americans, mostly learn about the countries in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, whenever we're in school.

Just the Irish do..I mean Irish descendants. and that Riverdancing is so fun..who doesn't love that? and nuns??

ScareBear
If you're talking about people, then think it's the rowdiness and the overall, overt charisma that Irish people posses. As for Ireland itself, it's the Craggy coastline, history, golf courses, and the overall Celtic atmosphere we imagine because of the stereotypes and movies that glorify such things. So, I guess we can blame Hollywood for this, too.

because it's daycint!

Its not just yanks, the whole world loves the Irish except for a few eejits up in the north of Ireland who hate all things Irish even though they are Irish, I know its weird.

because they are the only people who get their own holiday here, everyone can be irish for a day, i can't be black for MLK day.lol .we americans love bandwagons
and we eat alot of french fries.

Livier A
Because White people don't really know their orgin, they all seem to want to be irish because it's popular...

C'mon African americans are originally from Africa
Mexican's from Mexico
Columbians from Colombia
