Westport is a major tourist draw with visitors coming for several reasons. The most important is the magnificent scenery of the area, and the proximity to Connemara, Achill, Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick.
Westport is well known for sea-angling and freshwater fishing is popular on nearby Loughs Mask and Carra and on the Eriff river. Westport House and Children's Animal and Bird Park is a particular draw for families, many of whom stay at the caravan and camping park which belongs to Westport House. Westport has an 18-hole golf course, popular with visitors. A nearby 9-hole course has an attached guest accommodation.

I am from California and lived in Belfast for 5 years , when my mom came over to visit we went all over Ireland. Westport was on the agenda. That trip was about 8 years ago and we still talk about how great Westport was. It is a beautiful little town, very Irish and charming. We went to Matt Malloy's(spelling?) pub and had the best night, besides the part when I had one to many and almost feel into the fire, oops. It was so fun in there, we got there early and stayed very late, met tons of great people and my mom even got hit on by a man half her age(she still talks about that too, lol) So I always recommend Westport to people when they are planning a trip to Ireland. I know 2 people that went after I suggested it and they loved it too.

It's very pretty and well located for visiting some of Ireland's best scenery.

Plus a lot of people know the town for being featured on 3D street level Google earth.

The worlds supply of botox is produced in westport.
Funny really botox gives the illusion of youth and fulfillment whereas Westports tidiness gives and illusion that there is much more going on in the town than just picking up rubbish, but thats it. Full of stag and hen parties and a mountain that people visit once a year to inflict torture on themselves. The only reason westport is tidy is that mayo people are to mean to throw any thing out (I am hoping for a record thumbs down on this one)

People visit Westport because it is a beautiful town and the surrounding area is breathtaking, it also won this years tidy towns award.

The local landscape is breathtaking, and there's Matt Molloy's pub also. I happen to have relatives in that area also.

For the fun and the craic, the tons of things to do and see, the scenery, Croagh Patrick and other notable places within easy reach, the friendly laid-back people, the live Irish music in many of the pubs, the good food, and if you are lucky, decent weather. But even if it is raining, you'll be having so much fun it won't seem to matter.

What are you waiting for? Come on over!!

Killary! went there on a school trip earlier this year! amazing!.. time of my life!..
