Because it is green.

Green is not a gay colour.

I was told purple is.

Gay also means happy.
It was used often as happy, till its modern use.

I do not understand your question. There are straight and gay people
in every country.

I do not find the term gay in any sense. Happy or otherwise.
It simply means Ireland is green.
I suspect our island is green because of the rain.

Good Luck.

Etherglide
The word youre trying to come out with is Emerald. It doesnt sound gay. You do.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
Yes, Ireland is a wonderfu gay emeral island.

I should be doing something else

Emerald not Emeral.

Not sure what gay has to do with it.

Funniest question I've ever seen on here. Seriously. I am going to be chortling about this one for ages.

Bye the way, I am Irish, born and reared in Ireland, and apparently Ireland is called the Emerald Isle because compared to many places it has many different shades of green.

Gay. Right.

That's really SO funny ..... seriously, thank you.

da'zone

cos Emerald is green.
Ireland is green cos it rains a lot over there

BTW it is really dumb to use 'gay'

Well I've never questioned it before...possibly due to the many natural shades of green...but that's just speculation now...As for it being gay? Well I admit we're not the most liberal people.....

t25xanne

Ireland is green, therefore it's called "The Emerald Isle".

I don't think it's gay, it sounds majestic and beautiful.
Ireland if full of lush, green shrubbery and rolling hills.
Thus, emerald a beautiful green colour, and isle, because Ireland is an island.
