Postcodes aren't necessary. We actually TALK to our neighbours.

I suppose we are too small to warrant the need for them, apart from Dublin of course, we only have a very small population (4 and a half Million).

dmIRL
because there hasnt been the need until recently

before the celtic tiger (post 1995apx) outside dublin was a very closely knit society and the postman knew everyone.

now that there are more foreign nationals living in the country its becoming more difficult so they are bringing in postcodes - at the moment some 'consultancy firm' is be paid millions of €'s to decide if we need something that we obviously do and if we do to decide how best to devide up the country (my little brother could do that)

typical Irish Government 4 ya

P.S. if u want to know so that you can buy things online when they ask for a postcode just put in a fake one - it doesnt make a difference

hop that helped

Puzzledirishgirl
Postcodes are needed but D4 residents aren't happy cos they will no longer be D4! Its the reason why a lot of companies wont map Ireland for sat nav's. It is easier with post codes. Some day we will get into the present times in Ireland!!!

Anyway I guess we didn't need them until recently as the population was small and we kinda knew everyone but now people have moved around so much we need them.

We do in Dublin. We have Dublin 1-24. I dunno why we don't all over the country..

why do we need postcodes??on letters we write the name of the person and the village it is in aswell as the county!!! their is no need for postcodes because the population is so small here and the letters are sent to the county and from there you know the areas around that county!!

we don t really need them even when my name or address is spelt wrong on letters, i always get my letters,, as long as the area is correct,, the postman finds me lol lol

Pyro
Because we're cool!
I dunno? Ireland doesnt really seem big or busy enough to need them, also that reminds me I gotta send a letter!
