Why !! have petrol prices rocketed here in Ireland? |
Whilst it appears that petrol prices have dropped in other countries here in Southern Ireland it seems out of control. Why !! |

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

Because we're being ripped off.
Even though the euro almost reached parity with sterling a few weeks back we still didn't get a reduction in food or magazines brought in from the UK.
The ESB are robbing us blind, and so are Bord Gas.
We're being taken for a ride in this country. |

I'm as bamboozled as you are about petrol prices. First they zoom up then thud down again.
Saw something on TV a while back, folk driving across the non existant border between the six and the republic to get cheaper petrol. Not sure which direction the flow is.
If you live not too far from upper six, it might worth thinking about. But then if we're talking about enths of a dram being one thousanth of a part of a Euro having first been exchanged into a punt etc blah.
Talking of the Euro, not sure of the exchange rate, but should be to your advantage right now. Think you'll get more punt for your Euro than was the case this time last year.
Try this Yahoo currency converter at the link below - One BG Pound gets you 1.12 Euros - of if you prefer, 1.12 Euros gets you a Pound GB.

The biggest laff was the French secretary [some years back] who asked her boss, "What is the exchange rate beween the French Euro and the German Euro?"
This next link gets you the price of fuel at the pumps across the Republic - worth checking out, even if you have to drive a few miles, might be worth it.

I always use my local BP garage, not becuase the petrol is cheap, but they do Nectar Points on your Sainsbury's card thing. Worth nearly a whole day's food at the end of the year. Why can't we have a single points card for everywhere?
Anyway, good luck and here's some music to help cheer you up a bit. Well, not exactly music, a sort of mad Celtic dance really. I promise it will make you laff.

Fuel prices have started to creep back up again here in England...
Beatnick
Ireland are no longer using the punt, they have been in the euro zone now for quite a number of years. |

Probably something to do with the Euro. Petrol prices in England have fallen recently.

It started to creep up again last week, yes, maybe because people are driving less .... it's a pain in the neck. |

Shop around. Also, regarding the prices of magazines the retail price is fixed by Easons but many retailers have been charging anything from 15 cents to 30 cents extra. If you find any shop overcharging bring it to their notice, refuse to pay the extra charge, and if they will not take it off, leave it with them, and buy where it is cheaper. |

its unbelievable, i am now spending around 40% of my income over the border. the government are adding the bit extra on fuel as the price of a barrel has not risen lately. also the esb is nearly50% higher than in uk. i have a big family and i am going over the border weekly to buy all our weekly shopping because i can get double what i get in eire for the same money.
esb- you can now switch electricity providers for some saving. gas providers are selling it around 12-14% cheaper than esb also airtricity are doing deals where you can save similar. switch now people of ireland we have been ridden for too long. |
