i thought most people in Dublin did own a car

Most people in Dublin do own cars, mostly 2 per household. The roads are full of cars, and we do use public transport. Its good and cheap.

Why did you think most people don't own cars? Its the first time I ever heard anyone express that opinion before.

Trish D
I live close to the city centre and can walk or take the bus to work. It would be very wasteful for me to own a car and have it sit outside my house most of the week.

Others may have other reasons, but I don't own a car because I don't need one.

Yvonne 65
I agree with Christin. The traffic is Dublin is deplorable and probably becauses everyone does own a car and drives everywhere.

Most people do own cars, they probably just don't bring them into Dublin City because of parking and getting clamped. Anyway the Luas is a gift for most of us! :-)

most people own a car, almost everyone over the age of 20 has a car here!

Quite simple,it's quicker to walk, cycle or use the Luas and less hassle.I've two sons in Doobla, both use a bike.Actually lots have cars but don't use them for getting to and from work. They use them to escape when they can!

Guillaume D
how do you know? you should see the rush hour traffic coming from the city.its horrible. but i can understand people who dont drive cars in dublin .the bus is cheaper and the less car's their are on the road the less pollution there will be.plus the price of petrol here would make you want to scream.

Any of you ever thought of the fact the system to get driving licenses is ridiculous?

Conpp
I live in Dublin and I own a car, actually its hard to think of anyone of my mates that don't own a car!
As for public transport; its rubbish takes me 20 mins to get to the city centre by car or 50 mins by bus! The bus can also be unreliable. Therefore if you asked why so many people in Dublin do own their own car I could understand why.

They can't afford to run them?

Fuel is a lot cheaper in Ireland though, so i dont really know,

Like in London
Everywhere is within walking distance
So it isn't worth buying a car
