Sorry for being cynical, but after last night's debate I can't see why we should vote for them, except maybe to get that disgusting McDowell out. I really hate seeing my tax spent on paying a guy like that. |

no, at least not without the support of Labour.
Politics in Ireland seems to be more about 'local issues' and personalities than about any real political agenda, with the exception of the Green party. Both the major parties have the same manifesto promises, re transport, taxation, childcare & health (which is a total mess, but part of that could be down to the power of the unions, any reforms are immediately resisted by the workers, while the rest of us sit in casualty for 5 hours minimum, if we're lucky).
FF point out that we're the richest we've ever been, but I think the current economic situation would have existed regardless of who was in power, because our wealth comes from US investment (re good tax incentives to come here, but now the cost of labour will, and is making them move elsewhere), the Euro, this brought in cheap credit to Ireland for the first time and therefor increased investment and spending power.
I think we're all indifferent to their promises at this stage (well most of us), and I'd reckon all the minor parties, like the Greens, could end up making the difference in the eventual coalition that will come to power on Friday.
I can see myself filling in my entire voting sheet, but I honestly don't think any of it will make much of a difference |

As much as makes no difference, all political parties are in it for what they can get out of it, and will promise the electorate anything and everything to get themselves elected into 'power' and then they will "hum! and Ahh! and erm!" for the duration of their term in office and do nothing but put up all the taxes every year, expect nay! demand you all pay every cent of them, and tell you blandly that these are really needed funds, for the betterment of the country, so to me it would seewm that it's still going to be a case of better the devil you know than the devil you are going to regret voting for. which will just lead you to a point of your own hobsons choice once you have that pencil in your hands to mark your vote slip.... and finally, I don't really think Fine Gael will win, this time. maybe next time, they made such a mess when they were last voted Into power, you want another mess? I just plain don't trust Politicians, look at the 'Widowmaker' they have for an American President, would you trust HIM?? make a wise choice, bye...Tony M |

Good question, but i honestly dont know, the only really really big thing that concerns many people is the Health issue and FF said they'd have it sorted in their last campaign to no avail, and with FF already saying that with FG proposals that the money they say will be for beds etc. is due to go somewhere else its beginning to seem a bit ludicrous. Im not arsed voting for either cos one or the other will be in power with their respective partner (labour, pd's) anyway, so im gonna give the greens my vote for a change. |

I honestly don't think so. Judging by the two debates hosted by Prime Time on RTÉ on Wednesday and Thursday nights, I wouldn't think so.
Also, the polls currently suggest that Fine Gael and Labour are doing well, but as seen in previous elections, the polls mean absolutely nothing. Fianna Fáil were doomed to lose seats in the last election and didn't.
Those that have always voted for particular parties are likely to continue doing so. Most people don't vote for the individual candidates anymore. |
