Michael O' Leary of Ryanair has said that because of all the airlines going into liquidation, he expects to be able to buy up cheap long haul aircraft at a knockdown price and open a transatlantic wing of Ryanair.
His problem will be landing slots in the US which are very scarce and expensive. So if it happens, it will be to little known regional airports and then long journeys to the main cities by other means. An example would be going to New York and landing in Albany. The additional cost of transport after landing could far outweigh the benefits.
But it will make the other carriers sit up and take notice.

Puzzledirishgirl
Think you might be thinking of Ryanair. I heard they are starting transatlantic flights next year.

pee-wee, Aer Fungus is the nickname for Aer Lingus

Michael O'Leary of Ryanair is planning to introduce cheap flights to America, with all the airlines going bust he believes now is a great time to pick up cheap long haul aircraft.

Rory M
I doubt it.

pee-wee

I heard a rumour, they've named a new airline already as 'Aer Fungus'.
And they have had a trial run to Heathrow. When asked high they were, by Traffic Control. Paddy said I am 6ft 2in, when asked his position, begorragh I am sitting in the Pilots seat. By the front window.
